Position Summary:
We are seeking a Cost Accounting Manager with strong technical accounting expertise to lead inventory and manufacturing accounting activities across multiple teams and sites. This role owns key close deliverables, drives SOX-compliant processes and control execution, and ensures audit-ready financial reporting through strong accounting judgment, documentation, and disciplined execution.

This is a highly ownership-driven role. The ideal candidate can operate independently, apply core accounting fundamentals to solve problems, and deliver results in a close environment without requiring heavy direction or micromanagement.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead global cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing accounting activities across multiple teams/sites, ensuring consistent technical accounting application and execution
  • Own month-end close execution and balance sheet governance, including accruals, reserves, and reconciliations (subledger to GL)
  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, accounting conclusions, and supporting documentation prepared by team members
  • Drive inventory valuation and cutoff accuracy, including in-transit inventory review and period-end accrual governance
  • Lead over/under absorption analysis and required reclassification activity
  • Own and oversee manufacturing variance accounting and analysis, including standard cost adjustments, PPV, expedites/premium freight, and freight/logistics-related variances
  • Own inventory reserve rollforwards and GL tie-outs, including E&O rollforward and reconciliation to GL
  • Review and approve cycle count variance investigations and inventory adjustment accounting treatment
  • Oversee ARM reconciliations, ensure timely completion, and drive issue resolution across the team
  • Own SOX/internal control execution for the area, including evidence standards, review/approval workflows, and remediation of control gaps
  • Coordinate and manage audits with external audit firms and Viavi Internal Audit, including walkthroughs, request tracking, and timely delivery of support and control evidence
  • Lead budgeting execution for assigned areas, partnering with stakeholders to build the plan, manage timelines, and drive accountability
  • Provide leadership and prioritization for ad hoc operational finance and technical accounting needs
  • Drive continuous improvement through SOP creation, policy/procedure updates, and standardization of close and control processes

What Success Looks Like in This Role:

  • Delivers a clean, timely close with strong documentation and minimal rework
  • Identifies issues early, drives resolution, and keeps stakeholders aligned
  • Applies accounting fundamentals to make decisions when processes are unclear or incomplete
  • Builds practical solutions quickly (e.g., reserve methodologies, reconciliation frameworks, documentation templates) to support close and audit requirements
  • Drives execution across multiple teams without needing constant direction

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7–12+ years of progressive experience in technical accounting, cost accounting, inventory accounting, or operations finance
  • Experience leading teams and reviewing/approving work products (reconciliations, JEs, close support, controls)
  • Strong understanding of accruals, reconciliations, reserves, cutoff, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost flows
  • Proven experience supporting SOX/internal controls and audit requirements
  • CPA and/or CMA strongly preferred
