Corporate Counsel, Business Legal - Global Housing

Join our dynamic and growing Legal team supporting Assurant’s Global Housing Business!

We are seeking a highly skilled attorney to join our Business Legal Global Housing team as Corporate Counsel. This role provides legal and regulatory support across a broad spectrum of commercial and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on Assurant’s Lending Solutions business within the Global Housing segment —including lender‑placed insurance, insurance carrier data exchanges and integrations, and related products and services. In addition to commercial contracting, this role will conduct regulatory legal research, assess emerging and evolving legal issues, and provide strategic guidance to internal clients across the business. You will play a central role in advising on legal matters that directly impact the Lending Solutions business, helping drive growth, and protecting the organization from legal and regulatory risks.

This is a remote position, with a strong preference for candidates based in the Atlanta, GA area. Exceptional candidates in other locations will also be considered.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including insurance carrier agreements and client agreements.

  • Advise internal business teams on contractual obligations, risk management, and compliance related to commercial transactions.

  • Lead B2B negotiations to ensure favorable terms while maintaining strong business relationships.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, compliance, risk management, procurement, finance, and operations to support business objectives.

  • Provide legal support for contract lifecycle management, including amendments, renewals, and dispute resolution.

  • Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices impacting commercial transactions.

  • Embed within the business to understand the objectives of the business unit(s) and the key elements driving profitability.

  • Identify potential legal risks and/or impacts to existing businesses, new ventures, and products, as appropriate.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • Active law license in good standing

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department providing counsel on business and contractual matters—ideally within the insurance or technology industry.

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills for complex commercial agreements

  • Highly autonomous and self‑motivated, with sound judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency

  • Ability to understand business strategy and basic financial considerations

  • Strong knowledge of B2B agreements, risk assessment, and operational impacts

  • Ability to quickly evaluate complex legal/regulatory issues and recommend sound courses of action

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise at all organizational levels

How much should I expect to travel?

Ability to travel as necessary, up to 10%

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Experience within the insurance industry

  • Background drafting complex commercial agreements

  • Experience litigating complex commercial disputes

Pay Range:

$103,800.00 - $173,300.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
