Job Description

  

Position Overview

The Controller for the Gavia Business Unit is responsible for leading all accounting, financial reporting, and compliance activities for the entity. This role ensures adherence to U.S. GAAP, Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) requirements, corporate policies, and local statutory regulations. The Controller oversees daily accounting operations, manages the month‑end close, leads a team of accountants, and partners with both local leadership and the Controller for the Vehicles business to support accurate financial results, operational decision‑making, and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies.
  • Manage daily bank activity, including cash positioning, reconciliations, and monitoring of liquidity needs.
  • Perform and review balance sheet account reconciliations with proper documentation and timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Lead fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and asset tracking.
  • Support payroll accounting, ensuring proper recording of payroll, benefits, and related accruals.
  • Manage intercompany accounting, including reconciliations, settlements, and compliance with transfer pricing guidelines.
  • Oversee project accounting for research & development (R&D) and percentage of completion (POC) initiatives, ensuring proper cost tracking and revenue recognition.
  • Support cost accounting activities, inventory valuation, margin analysis and annual physical inventories.
  • Support Corporate Tax reporting requirements

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Lead the month‑end close process to ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting.
  • Assist with P&L and balance sheet flux analysis, providing clear explanations for variances and trends.
  • Review customer purchase orders and contracts with a focus on proper revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP.
  • Prepare financial schedules and reports required for internal management, corporate consolidation, and statutory reporting.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) internal control requirements, including documentation, testing support, and remediation of deficiencies.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting and operational processes.
  • Ensure compliance with local tax, statutory, and regulatory reporting requirements, coordinating with external advisors as needed.

Audit & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors, providing documentation, analysis, and support throughout audit cycles.
  • Collaborate with finance, tax, treasury, legal, and IT teams to ensure alignment with U.S. GAAP, corporate policies, and global reporting standards.
  • Support ERP upgrades or implementations, including testing, process documentation, and training of local staff.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage and develop a team of staff accountants, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
  • Partner with local business leaders to support operational decision‑making and financial planning.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a multinational organization.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX requirements preferred
  • Strong knowledge of local statutory accounting standards required.
  • Experience with revenue recognition, cost accounting, and project accounting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems; experience supporting system upgrades or implementations is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently across time zones and collaborate with global teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing accounting staff.
