Job Description Summary

The Continuing Education Instructor is responsible for providing class, workshop and/or open studio instruction in accordance to a pre-approved established curriculum. The Instructor is responsible for engaging students in meaningful learning experiences, fostering creativity, providing a safe and professional work environment and ensuring the success of the class or workshop. The Instructor oversees all set up, facilitation and cleanup of art activities.

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts classes, workshop, and/or open studio instruction in designated medium to the identified student audience in accordance with pre-approved, established curriculum, class outlines and class schedules.
  • Develops curricula for assigned class or workshop.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment that facilitates and encourages the mission and goals of the program.
  • Adheres to program and College policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Coordinator or designee to provide substitute instruction or make-up classes as needed.
  • Adheres to the established professional code of conduct established by the program and the College.
  • Evaluates students' progress in educational matters and their work.
  • Stays updated on developments in relevant subject matter areas.
  • Follows and enforces college-identified safety and hazardous materials protocols.
  • Oversees the set-up, facilitation and cleanup of all activities.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of studio space.
  • Performs required administrative tasks related to teaching assignments.
  • Performs additional related duties as requested.

  • Passionate about encouraging and supporting the learning experiences of all students, children through adults.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with the public, including individuals with disabilities, and the ability to engage effectively with people from diverse ethnic, socio-economic, educational, cultural, religious, gender, and generational backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual and committed to implementing pre-approved established curricula with diligence.
  • Ability to work weekday, evenings, and/or weekends according to the specific teaching agreement.
  • Demonstrated ability to retain students and promote student success.
  • Embrace teamwork while demonstrating independence, self-initiation, and exceptional time management skills.
  • Exhibit a keen interest in staying abreast of current knowledge within the assigned medium.
  • Open to receiving and incorporating constructive feedback from liaisons, supervisors and administrative staff.

Education and Experience

Minimum:

  • Academic and/or professional expertise in the corresponding field

Preferred:

  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • State Certification where applicable
  • Experience working with diverse populations
