Salary Range: $19.52 - $25.37 Per Hour

Major Duties:

  • The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position. Completes contacts, i.e., conducts personal or telephone interviews with a wide range of individuals who have varying degrees of understanding, or with third party representatives, e.g., CPAs, practitioners, attorneys, who possess a professional understanding. Provides full explanations to specific inquiries initiated by the individual, generated by notices, or internally generated assignments. Uses sophisticated interviewing techniques, the employee reviews individual circumstances and goals, and advises on the most advantageous ways to meet them. Elicits sensitive, personal and financial information, e.g., innocent spouse determinations, bankruptcies, or draws out information the individual may attempt to withhold, e.g., additional sources of income, overpayments, to ensure compliance with reporting and disclosure requirements.

Qualifications: Federal experience is not required. Experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or through Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5 Level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience working with records or documents (for example: banking and/or insurance) and applying established rules and procedures to manage customer accounts (for example: crediting and debiting, researching and/or adjusting accounts); Experience with face to face and/or telephone customer service (for example: collection agency, sales, etc.) that includes resolving problems and issues; Experience performing work using a computer (for example: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, Edge, or other search engines to research reference material) to locate and review records and reconcile discrepancies. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: completed at least 4 years of education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree (120 semester hours, 180 quarter hours or 2880 formal classroom hours) or a bachelor's or higher degree. OR You may qualify with a combination of experience and education equivalent to one (1) year of specialized experience. AND You must also meet the following requirements: MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Minimum age for federal employment is 18 years old, or at least 16 years old and have: Graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or Completed a formal vocational training program; or Received a statement from school authorities agreeing with your preference for employment rather than continuing your education BILINGUAL POSITION: Applicants will be required to demonstrate proficiency (ability to speak, read, and write) in both English and Spanish. You may be tested at some point in the hiring process to determine if you possess the required level of proficiency.
