What you'll be doing
The Consultant, Business Controls will partner with first line of defense teams in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to enable effective risk management across CAO activities. The Consultant, Business Controls will assist with operational and regulatory risk assessments, development and enhancement of internal controls, monitoring issue remediation status, and provide audit/exam support for teams within the US CAO, including Change Initiatives, Frontline Tools & Enablement, Communications, Centralized Governance & Controls, and Business Credit Controls.
How you'll succeed
Risk Assessment: Work closely with line of business (LOB) partners to conduct risk assessments (e.g., Operational Risk and Control Self-Assessment and Regulatory Compliance Risk Assessment) to identify and measure applicable risks and map to appropriate internal controls. Support the Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) process by assisting CAO business sponsors in completing CIRA and implementing effective mitigations.
Issue/Incident Reporting and Remediation: Understand activities and processes executed across each business and proactively identify and document risks and control gaps. For identified issues and incidents, work with management to assess root cause and identify action plans that address the root cause and mitigate the associated risk. Perform sustainability testing and effective challenge to support issue closure process.
Risk Mitigation, Metrics and Reporting: Contribute to the identification, documentation and maintenance of controls owned/executed by the Office of the CAO. Participate in annual refresh of Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) and non-RAS business metrics; contribute to risk reporting to enable leadership team to assess and effectively manage business line risks.
Risk Subject Matter Expert: Understand and communicate requirements related to compliance and operational risks. Be able to translate risk program requirements into process, risk, cause and control. Act as the risk and controls Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing expert advice to business partners, while identifying efficiency opportunities within existing processes.
Exam Management: Serve as liaison for testing and examinations (e.g. Internal Audits, Compliance Exams, regulatory exams) reviewing requests for information, managing document collection and review, and assist with issue vetting and action plan development.
Cross-Functional Relationships: Cultivate relationships with CAO management, Independent Risk Management partners, and Governance & Controls teams to promote collaboration and consistency in risk management execution.
Participate in special projects as needed.

Who you are
You possess 3-5 years of experience in compliance, operational risk, audit, or finance; preference for experience within a regulated financial services organization
You have a Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Accounting, Finance, Business or Management
You portray strong interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills; ability to articulate complex issues concisely and communicate effectively and comfortably with senior leadership
You have relationship building and stakeholder management skills
You are able to execute tasks under aggressive targets and effectively manage to change in plan
You show strong initiative, energy and confidence completing projects with limited supervision
At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $105,000 - $115,000K for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
