Lead - Assumed Portfolio Enablement & Contract Advisor– Alt Ventures

We are looking for an individual who will be a key part in enabling the business’s assumed reinsurance strategy by reviewing, analyzing, and shaping complex reinsurance contracts to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with business objectives.

Acting as a trusted advisor, the role helps stakeholders understand contractual provisions and their implications while driving informed decision-making. In parallel, the role focuses on streamlining and improving assumed reinsurance contracting processes, leveraging AI and digital tools to enhance efficiency, consistency, and governance. This position is well-suited for a collaborative professional with strong reinsurance knowledge, contract expertise, and a forward-looking process improvement mindset.

Job Description Summary

Provides strategic and operational leadership for the assumed reinsurance portfolio within Alternative Ventures. This role partners closely with internal underwriting, finance, legal, actuarial, accounting, and external stakeholders to structure, negotiate, and execute assumed reinsurance arrangements that support portfolio growth, scalability, and operational excellence. Serves as a trusted advisor on complex reinsurance contracts, programs, and process matters while advancing consistent, efficient portfolio enablement practices.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Drives the design, evaluation and negotiation of the assumed reinsurance contracts with emphasis on strategic language.

  • Leads assumed contract review meetings with cross-functional teams and external business partners.

  • Provides guidance on treaty and facultative attachments and evolving portfolio needs.

  • Drives consistent internal processes for facultative placements across the Alternative Ventures initiatives, including bordereaux reporting, loss attachment and accounting needs.

  • Ensures compliance with company accounting and reporting standards, under strict guidelines, as provided by regulatory standards or internal requirements.

  • Serves as business unit support for reinsurance data issues, including internal data extractions and analysis.

  • Partners on process improvement initiatives.  Develops and maintains assumed reinsurance portfolio procedures to ensure efficient and effective best practices. Provides analysis and support for assumed risk programs. Utilize AI to streamline for efficiency and enhance contract language.

  • Works independently while effectively engaging stakeholders as needed. Balances independent execution with proactive communication and collaboration.

  • Maintains strong relationships with external customers or stakeholders including program managers, brokers, reinsurance counterparties and internal seams partners.

  • Researches and analyzes complex assumed reinsurance regulatory, contractual, and operational issues and provides recommendations to business partners.

  • Partners with AV program onboarding lead to stand up new assumed reinsurance programs/opportunities.

  • Consults on special projects and requests.

  • Serves as subject matter expert for assumed treaty interpretation, system set up and portfolio implications.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned. 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director, Assumed Risk Portfolio Enablement – Alternative Ventures.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, finance, accounting or a related field preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Pursuit or attainment of insurance related designations such as CPCU, CLU, ARM, ARe preferred.

Experience: Typically, eight or more years of experience in reinsurance, insurance, or related risk transfer roles such as assumed reinsurance program underwriting, broker advisory, contract management or portfolio analytics. Reinsurance contract experience is strongly preferred.  Project management experience is preferred. Exhibits strong autonomy in managing responsibilities and priorities with sound judgment. Reinsurance and/or commercial insurance (programs) industry experience preferred. 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Must have strong writing/communication skills, ability to prioritize and work independently to solve complex problems. The ideal candidate is able to apply Systems-thinking to understand (and communicate) processes. Learning ability is a must. Proven knowledge of risk management, insurance or assumed reinsurance practices. Thorough understanding of property, casualty, accident and health insurance coverages are a plus. Also, various insurance or reinsurance related accounting and finance practices, concepts, techniques. Has a good understanding of legal, actuarial, financial, sales, underwriting and claims policies and practices as they relate to insurance or reinsurance function. Strong analytical, technical and verbal/written communication abilities. Ability to implore systems thinking. Ability to manage multiple complex technical insurance/reinsurance issues simultaneously. Ability to negotiate and interpret reinsurance contract language. Strong decision-making and judgement. Project management skills.

The expected starting salary range for Consultant, Assumed Portfolio Enablement - Alternative Ventures : $97,000.00 - $145,000.00
