Oklo

Compliance Manager

Santa Clara, CA or Remote Full Time

Thanks for your interest in Oklo! We are searching for a Compliance Manager to join our Legal team.

Position Description

The Compliance Manager will play an important role assisting with key legal compliance efforts relating to obligations placed on us through our government contracts and awards (largely Departments of Defense and Energy), in addition to assisting with other corporate compliance efforts more broadly. This role, which will report directly to our General Counsel, is central to enabling Oklo’s corporate strategy by ensuring government contracting readiness, and ensuring that the company’s business processes and compliance frameworks are built with growth and scalability in mind. We are looking for someone who excels at project management and working cross-functionally, as you will need to coordinate with Operations, IT, Security, Legal, People, and Finance team members. Oklo is a dynamic and fast-moving company that is trying to achieve a wide range of goals, and we will need to be able to scale up our compliance infrastructure fast: we are looking for a creative thinker who is excited to rise to the challenge.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Managing corporate compliance obligations placed on us through contracts with Department of Defense and Department of Energy, serving as a touchpoint to understand our complete set of corporate requirements across our contracts
    • Work closely with Operations, IT, People, Finance, and Physical Security teams to ensure operations meet relevant FAR/DFARS, NISPOM, and DOE requirements.
    • Work with relevant teams to manage compliant workflows for cost accounting, payroll, ERP integration, procurement, and audit readiness
    • Work with IT to support deployment and sustainment of secure IT and cyber infrastructure to achieve DFARS, NIST 800-171, and related standards as needed
    • Align systems and processes across parent and subsidiary entities to support program execution under government requirements.
  • Helping to negotiate compliance requirements in future government contracts
  • Lead export control compliance efforts, including Part 810-related reporting
  • Support AML/Sanctions compliance efforts
  • Support Facility Clearance (FCL) enablement and sustainment, ensuring corporate structures, policies, and systems remain aligned with government security requirements, and are built in a scalable way

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of experience in legal or corporate compliance, with special experience with Department of Defense and Department of Energy requirements if possible
  • Export control experience, ideally with some exposure to Part 810 and/or Export Controlled Information
  • Experience coordinating governance and operational frameworks between parent and subsidiary organizations.
  • Experience relying on subject matter experts to support compliance efforts in unfamiliar spaces
  • Proven record of building compliant IT, HR, finance, and security functions aligned to government requirements

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience building programs from scratch, especially in high growth environments
  • Energy experience, especially with the Department of Energy and/or NRC
  • Active Top Secret clearance

Competencies:

We are looking for a Compliance Manager that is:

  • Detail-oriented while moving lightning fast
  • Resourceful, inquisitive, and willing and able to learn quickly
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment
  • Passionate about clean energy
  • Passionate about making advanced fission a reality
  • Comfortable solving problems in new ways, and thinking beyond “the way things are done”

Who you are:

A startup person: You aren't driven by titles or hierarchy, and prefer efficiency to excess process. You don't need or expect to have a lot of guidance but you enjoy working in a fast-paced team. If you prefer the culture and feel of a large organization, that is great, but you likely won’t enjoy working with us! There is plenty of important work and plenty of good opportunities with organizations like that.

Motivated: You are self-motivated. You bring an enthusiasm to the team, and imbue a sense of passion that goes beyond clocking in and clocking out. This isn’t about a fake or arbitrary “pieces of flair” mentality or lack of work-life balance! It is about being a part of the vision and feeling a part of reaching team goals.

A team-player: Oklo genuinely is a team. We aren’t about taking credit for ourselves, and we aren’t about pushing blame to others. We do incredible things because we work as a team.

An excellent communicator: We need a person who is not only technically competent but also a clear and upbeat communicator.

Creative: Being creative means that when things fall outside clear scopes or processes or problems arise without clear solutions, you are able to identify it as well as invent ways to solve a problem or fill a need without micromanagement. The successful person in this job will not only be creative, but also enjoy being creative and solving open-ended problems which may change day-by-day.

Detail-oriented: This focus is a big part of excellence, consistency, and quality. Excellent grammar and spelling matter for both good communication as well as the image of the company that we put forward.

About Oklo travel requirements:

Oklo requires remote employees to travel to headquarters (Santa Clara, CA) twice a quarter annually, based on business or team needs, including attendance at team meetings, off-sites, and other company events or gatherings.

About Oklo compensation: $130,000-160,000
