Perform a variety of law enforcement support duties that do not require the direct involvement of a certified deputy or sworn personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities

Note: Depending on assigned responsibilities, employees may perform some or all of the duties below

  • Monitor live video surveillance, radio transmissions, and calls for service for areas covered by the Real Time Crime Center RTCC) system.
  • Relay appropriate information to units in the areas covered by the Real Time Crime Center.
  • Maintain activity records and logs.
  • Provide RTC video files to appropriate personnel.
  • Update the LPR system with Hot Files.
  • Utilize other law enforcement programs and databases (e.g., Versadex Records Management System, Linx) as needed.
  • Brief the oncoming shift with any pertinent data.
  • Fill in for other community service aides as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of county and state ordinances, laws and regulations pertaining to the area of assignment.
  • Working knowledge of office policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of record keeping and general office procedures.
  • Some knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of crime trends and patterns throughout Hillsborough County.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain logs, files, and reports.
  • Ability to properly answer and route telephone calls.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Working Conditions

  • Work within a law enforcement office environment utilizing a computer and monitors.
  • Remain in a stationary position 80% during shift hours.
  • Work 12-hour shifts.
  • May be required to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Option to wear a Sheriff’s Office provided polo shirt.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate.

Required Pre-Employment Testing

  • Completion of pre-employment testing.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Attendance at the specified Sheriff's Office work location is required.
  • Depending on assignment, employees may be required to possess a valid Florida Driver License at time of employment. Driving history will be thoroughly reviewed and may be grounds for disqualification.
  • No visible tattoos on face, head, and neck. Tattoos determined to take away from the professional appearance of the Sheriff’s Office must be covered with an appropriate white, black, or neutral covering.
  • No illegal drug sale within lifetime.
  • No illegal drug use within the past 36 months. No marijuana use within the last 12 months.
  • No felony convictions within lifetime.
  • No misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statement, or domestic violence within lifetime.
  • No dishonorable discharge from any branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve Forces.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation including criminal, reference, employment, and neighborhood checks; polygraph; medical evaluation; and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with various computer programs, including Excel and research databases.
  • The ability to multitask by simultaneously watching live video feeds, relaying information via radio, and controlling live video cameras to track individuals/vehicles.
