As part of the Communications & Community Impact team, the Communications Strategist provides strategic communications support across the organization, connecting employees with our purpose, strategy, values, and culture. This role supports communications for complex and sensitive business initiatives, navigating difficult topics while maintaining trust and clarity. They shape how messages land organization-wide, and externally. This role supports all functional areas of Communications, with key experience in digital communications and media relations.
Major Responsibilities:
Act as a trusted senior communications advisor to leaders and business partners, providing expert guidance, counsel, and coaching to support business, operational, and change initiatives.
Supporting all functional areas of Communications including:
Internal communications: Contribute to the evolution and execution of our internal communications strategy, ensuring work aligns with Corporate Affairs priorities and enterprise objectives, under the direction of the Manager, Internal Communications.
Digital communications: Supports the execution of the social media strategy bringing at least three years of social media experience.
This includes developing and delivering social media content strategies and storytelling that bring complex, high‑profile initiatives to life for external audience in ways that are clear, relevant, and aligned with our brand, narrative, and values.
Media relations and external communications: Support the execution of the media relations strategy including writing key messages, responding to media requests when required.
Crisis Communications: Provide backup support for internal crisis communications, including participation in the Crisis Communications Response Team (CCRT) and on‑call social media rotation as required.
Other communications duties as required.
Education Required:
Undergraduate degree in Communications or related study, or a suitable combination of education and work experience may be considered.
Crisis response training would be considered an asset
Qualifications:
Seven or more years’ experience in a communications role
Exceptional writing, editing, and communications skills, with experience creating content for diverse audiences while upholding CP Style, editorial integrity, and brand standards
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to coach and guide team members through a collaborative content development process
Experience supporting at the executive level
Proven ability to plan and execute communications strategies, particularly for employee and internal initiatives, including content development, engagement, and measurement
Experience across social media, internal communications, digital channels, and media relations, with awareness of emerging trends
Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and develop mutually beneficial solutions
Ability to use qualitative and quantitative data to inform decisions and continuously improve communications
Strong project management and organizational skills
Knowledge of the utility industry is an asset

Ability working with all levels of employees, including senior leaders
Independent thinker, capable of developing and driving innovative solutions to manage and organize workflow
Ability to deliver quality results with close attention to detail

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) workforce with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
