Communications Lead, SEA

We are looking for a Communications expert to tell high quality stories in ways that drive tangible impact and lead the Communications strategy and execution in Singapore (Dyson’s global headquarters) and across our South-East Asia cluster including Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. This is a pivotal role that requires proactive collaboration, insight-sharing and influence across a diverse group of markets.

The successful candidate will be a well connected, dynamic, organised and passionate Communications leader responsible for developing integrated Communications plans that align with the company's goals and position Dyson as the leader in engineering, innovation technology and education. In addition to having a strategic focus, the role requires hands-on execution, leveraging a broad network of contacts to deliver quality outputs while protecting and enhancing Dyson's reputation. With demonstrated experience of cross-functional leadership skills the candidate will inspire and motivate talented teams to achieve unrivalled performance and be the sparring partner for our leaders across SEA markets.

About the role

As a seasoned Communications leader, you will enhance Dyson’s performance, credentials and reputation across South East Asia. You will lead multiple external agency partners while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and distributors, consistently demonstrating integrated ways of working. You have a deep knowledge of the media, social media and influencer space including local trends that can be leveraged, as well as outstanding relationships with key journalists, KOLs and influencers across SEA. You have an innate ability to find, articulate and propagate inspiring stories (and inspire others to tell their stories) in a way that resonates for a diverse range of audiences across SEA.

Core Responsibilities:

You will lead Communications activities end-to-end, from strategic planning to execution of campaigns with a focus on driving earned press and influencer coverage to 1) support commercial priorities and 2) drive storytelling/thought leadership narratives.

Leadership:

  • A strong contributor to the Global Communications team demonstrating leadership in the ‘how’ and ‘what’ we communicate, playing a proactive role in evolving our approach and developing our people.
  • Be an engaged leader in the cluster leadership team. Show involvement across all departments to maximise integration of communications in the wider business in all markets.
  • Demonstrate high business acumen and understanding of Dyson. Provide strategic communications advice to the Managing Directors and the Leadership teams of SEA.
  • Manage budgets to ensure efficiencies across the cluster and get the tools and resources to carry out local and cluster announcements.
  • Drive a comprehensive program to advance Dyson’s mission and goals across product and internal communications for the cluster – launching products often involving project management of events, sustaining launch momentum, press office, thought leadership and SEA Commercial team engagement.
  • Contribute to the wider Communications community by regularly expanding your remit to regional projects.
  • Lead a team spread across multiple markets (including agencies and distributor partners), driving collaborative growth plans and project managing events in collaboration with the global events team.
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage people up, down, and across the organization in order to bring about change.
  • Plan and implement the Communications strategy for Dyson in SEA with a focus on maximising exposure and impact on the consumer benefits of Dyson products underpinned with our problem-solving approach, our products, people and places and the Dyson philosophy
  • Maximize each narrative to build Dyson’s reputation and desirability as a global technology company with products that deliver advanced performance and long-term value. Grow share of voice and understanding of the Dyson difference while driving impact in tangible ways to contribute to business growth.

Communication skills:

  • Devise and implement excellent external and internal Communications strategies focused on telling stories around our core technology, our machines, our corporate stories, our people and places and the Dyson philosophy.
  • Show in-depth knowledge and experience of the SEA media, social media and influencer landscape: Own a network of key top tier contacts and understand the ins and outs of media relation.
  • Drive the continuation and development of new formats and platforms in interaction with internal and external stakeholders. Be it online, on social media channels, as well as in traditional media and events.
  • Oversee in-depth real-time monitoring, analysis reporting, and response to press coverage and social media interactions on a timely basis and across a wide spectrum of media; providing updates to the business on a regular basis.
  • Identify emerging issues and opportunities facing the organization and design strategies to manage their impact including crisis management.
  • Own the voice of Dyson in the SEA cluster and ensure a consistently high level of execution across all channels.

About you

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Fluent in English. Another language is a plus.
  • Operate independently with strong accountability for results, balancing strategic planning with tactical implementation.
  • Minimum 10 + years’ experience in a management role focused on communications – either in-house, agency side as part of a fast-paced, agile and change driven industry.
  • Analytical skills and ability to distil information with a focus on quality and detail, rather than quantity.
  • Ability to build and effect change - at both a people and process level.
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in building relationships with top tier reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high-impact placements.
  • Evidence of experience in managing a comprehensive communications program to advance an organization’s mission and goals.
  • Superior management skills, particularly when project managing events; proven ability to influence and engage people up, down, and across the organization in order to bring about change.
  • An understanding and passion for Dyson technology, design and engineering and a sense of what makes Dyson and its people tick.
  • Excellent storytelling ability, brilliant interpersonal skills and robust commercial understanding.
