The Commercial Loan Documentation Specialist is an integral member of the customer engagement team, whose role is to represent the interests of the bank in each transaction within the assigned portfolio. The incumbent will pursue and obtain information relating to each transaction and identify and advise the other team members on risks presented and risk mitigation strategies. In addition, the incumbent will manage preparation for documentation and closing needs of a diverse and complex portfolio of commercial loans and activities relating to commercial loans in connection with assigned transactions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Attend team discussions/negotiations in anticipation of lending or modifying existing loans.
- Ensure loan approvals comply with internal guidelines and external regulations.
- Review all due diligence required in connection with each anticipated transaction, which may include but not be limited to appraisals, environmental reports, title, survey, and customer due diligence. Work with customers and other members of the loan team to identify and resolve risks presented by reviewing such information.
- Prepare appropriate loan documents for each transaction relating to assigned transactions, ensuring that all documentation complies with approved terms, regulatory requirements, and bank policies. This could include loans guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration or other Government Agencies.
- Work with customers and other loan team members to identify and resolve barriers to closing, which may include but not be limited to necessary insurance coverage, title endorsements, outstanding liens or clouds on title requiring resolution, outstanding taxes, and judgments against parties or property.
- Utilize nCino banking software to manage the lifecycle of a loan request and communicate with internal Associates to get loans to closing.
- Responsible to make decisions related to prioritizing daily work, which will involve reviewing assigned portfolio and determining which items are the most critical from a time sensitivity standpoint. The position manages the closing of transactions with little to no intervention from manager.
- Mitigate and remedy documentation and operational risks, including serving as a screening process for issues impacting the post-closing process. Confirm that all loan paperwork is managed in compliance with the Bank's procedures and relevant regulations. Responsible for the review of credit approvals and supporting documentation reflects the requirements in the approval for the specific loan. Communicate back to Credit and Relationship Manager when proposed requirements or approvals for the loan cannot be met and offer an alternative scenario to close the loan.
- Negotiate legal policy and procedural components of loan documents to decrease risks.
- Coordinate loan closings with all parties involved and loan from time of assignment to closing in target period established by department, business and as required by transaction and borrower.
- Coordinate activities with other parties including external legal counsel, borrower, title company, third parties and internal contacts and resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3 years of general banking experience in a large financial institution or law firm, including knowledge of general banking laws and regulations is required.
- Highly developed verbal ability, capable of communicating professionally and diplomatically with internal and external customers at all levels.
- Understanding of general banking laws and regulations.
- Proficient with all Microsoft Office and other commonly used business tools.
- Knowledgeable in entity documents to determine authorization and signers.
- Ability to multi-task and work on several transactions at a time with minimal errors and exceptions under limited time constraints.
- Must have excellent verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to dissect issues with due diligence and be able to assist with clearing any hurdles that may impede closing.
Salary Range:
$48,416.00 - $79,541.75
Individual base pay may vary on additional factors such as the candidate’s experience, job-related skills, relevant education, geographic location, and other specific business and organizational needs.
