Commercial Banking Development Officer

Portland, Maine Full time
Pay Range: $119,993.00 - $160,008.00

The Commercial Banking Development Officer is responsible for acquiring new commercial clients and supporting the growth of the bank’s loan and deposit portfolio. Understanding of cash flow, liquidity, and client operations enhances their ability to identify and deliver effective banking solutions.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • 10+years of experience in treasury management sales, commercial banking, or financial services.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of cash flow cycles and deposit strategies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and consultative selling skills.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and banking platforms.

Unique Job Characteristics and Requirements:

  • Frequent travel for client meetings and networking events
  • Travel less than 50%
  • Driver's License required
  • Reliable transportation required

Tasks Performed:

Client Acquisition, Market Engagement, Prospecting & Relationship Development (35%)

  • Identify and pursue potential new commercial banking relationships through market research, networking events, and referrals. Consistently represent the bank at community events, industry functions, and networking opportunities to enhance visibility and generate leads.  Use relationship-building techniques and consultative sales approaches to engage prospects and understand their business needs. Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners and financial decision makers.  Continued development of commercial sales, service and credit skills with resources identified by leadership. 

Sales Execution (15%)

  • Conduct in-depth discovery meetings with business owners and financial decision-makers to gather information about their operations, financial goals, and pain points. Interpret cash flow patterns and identify opportunities for banking solutions. Present and promote commercial banking products including deposit services and lending solutions. Coordinate with internal partners to deliver comprehensive financial services.

Internal Collaboration, Proposal Development and Deal Coordination (25%)

  • Work closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Officers, and Treasury Specialists to coordinate deal structuring and onboarding. Facilitate communication between departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of services to ensure that client needs are met. Collaborate with internal product specialists to develop customized proposals. Present solutions in a clear and compelling manner, addressing client-specific challenges, and demonstrating value. 

Pipeline Management and Reporting (20%)

  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and deal progress in CRM systems. Provide regular updates to management on pipeline status, conversion rates, and performance metrics.
