About the role
Commercial Advisor
This is an excellent opportunity for a legally trained or contracting professional who wants to step beyond purely legal and contracting work and build a commercial career at the center of Australia’s energy transition. You’ll join AGL’s Commercial team within Decarbonisation and Customer Strategy (DCS), where you’ll support Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers by delivering the commercial input that underpins some of the most interesting and high‑impact transactions in the market.
You’ll use your technical skills as a strong foundation—particularly your strengths in analysis, drafting, negotiation and risk thinking—while growing into a broader, more commercial role where you help shape deals, inform strategy, and develop future‑ready commercial solutions.
This role suits someone who loves problem‑solving, enjoys translating complexity into clarity, and is excited to build capability across commercial strategy, negotiation, and the use of digital and AI‑enabled tools.
What You’ll Do
Support (and over time, lead) negotiations with C&I customers and suppliers, applying both your legal/contracting understanding and growing commercial judgment.
Interpret and draft commercial agreements, balancing risk and reward as you contribute to the structuring and execution of deals.
Help improve commercial processes and agreements by drawing on market insights, best practice, and emerging digital/AI tools.
Partner closely with Legal, Sales, Engineering, Delivery, and Finance to provide pragmatic, solutions‑focused commercial advice.
Trial and embed AI or automation tools that make contracting, analysis, and commercial decision‑making more efficient.
Build strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups in a team that values collaboration, learning, and innovation.
Stay informed about trends shaping the energy and decarbonisation sector, evolving customer needs, and regulatory changes.
Support the drafting, review, and execution of agreements, tenders, and commercial communications with accuracy and consistency.
About You
Tertiary qualification in law or business, with experience in commercial contracting, negotiation, or advisory work.
A desire to expand beyond a purely legal/contracting role and build a broader commercial skillset.
Strong analytical capability, with the ability to balance commercial value, strategic alignment, and risk.
Excellent attention to detail and strong written communication skills, including drafting and interpreting complex documents.
Comfortable working with diverse stakeholders and translating technical or legal concepts into clear, practical advice.
Organized, adaptable, and energized by working in a fast‑moving environment.
Curious, proactive and committed to continuous learning—including developing your skills in digital tools and AI‑enabled ways of working.
What’s in it for You?
A unique opportunity to leverage your legal/contracting background while stepping into a role with broader commercial influence and career pathways.
Exposure to high‑value transactions across pure energy, renewables, behind‑the‑meter solutions, microgrids, storage, EVs and more.
An industry at the forefront of technological and policy change—offering unmatched development for commercially minded professionals.
A supportive team culture where innovation and career growth are genuinely encouraged.
The chance to contribute directly to Australia’s decarbonisation and work on deals that make a real impact for commercial and industrial customers.
*Benefits may change over time and vary based on role type and location.
If you’re ready to make a real impact in a dynamic environment, we’d love to hear from you!
