Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday - Friday (3:30pm – 12:30am)

Job Summary:

The CMM Technician performs dimensional inspection and metrology activities supporting tooling, prototype, and production components. Measurements are performed using portable coordinate measuring systems, optical/laser scanning equipment, and traditional precision measurement tools to verify conformance with engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications. This role supports in-process inspection, final inspection, tooling validation, and First Article Inspection (FAI) activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Dimensional Inspection

  • Perform pre-production, in-process and final dimensional inspection of tooling, fixtures, fabricated components, machined parts, and assemblies.
  • Operate portable metrology equipment including Hexagon ROMER Arm systems.
  • Use optical or laser scanning systems to capture part geometry and perform CAD-to-part comparisons.
  • Conduct dimensional layouts verifying location, profile, flatness, parallelism, and positional tolerances.
  • Measure small and large sheetmetal or fabricated structures, weldments, and tooling.
  • Generate and maintain dimensional inspection reports, scan reports, and measurement documentation.
  • Record objective evidence supporting quality records and audits.

Metrology & Measurement Planning

  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements to develop measurement strategies.
  • Establish coordinate systems, datums, and alignment strategies for accurate inspection.
  • Develop or optimize measurement routines for portable CMM and scanning equipment.

First Article Inspection (FAI) / Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)

  • Perform dimensional verification required for AS9102 First Article Inspection or PPAP submissions, when applicable.
  • Assist with ballooned drawings and characteristic traceability.

Collaboration & Problem Solving

  • Work with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional discrepancies.
  • Identify and document nonconforming conditions and support nonconformance reports (NCRs).
  • Provide measurement data to support root cause investigations and corrective actions.

Equipment Care & Calibration

  • Maintain proper care of metrology equipment and inspection fixtures.
  • Ensure measurement tools remain within calibration requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with large, fabricated assemblies or welded structures.
  • Experience with CAD model-based inspection workflows.
  • Familiarity with defense, aerospace, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting customer or government source inspections.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to move around large parts, fixtures, and tooling during measurement activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 35–50 lbs. as required.
  • Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Must follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
