We are looking for a Monitoring Support Engineer who is passionate about ensuring system reliability, performance, and availability through proactive monitoring and incident management.

As a Monitoring Support Engineer at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic PlatformOps team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. You will be a crucial line of defense, responsible for implementing, maintaining, and responding to monitoring systems across our core infrastructure and customer applications. The ideal person will become the subject matter expert on our monitoring stack, driving continuous improvement in our ability to detect, diagnose, and resolve issues before they impact our customers.

What You’ll Do:

  • Set up, configure, and manage monitoring tools and dashboards for all critical systems and applications.
  • Proactively monitor server performance and health, including servers, databases, and applications, using tools like Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar.
  • Detect, investigate, and resolve system anomalies and performance issues, responding promptly to alerts and incidents following established protocols.
  • Analyze system metrics and logs to identify trends, recommend, and implement performance tuning and optimization solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of monitoring configurations, incident responses, and resolution steps.
  • Coordinate with other IT and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues and ensure comprehensive monitoring coverage.

  • System Uptime/Availability Percentage
  • Alert-to-Incident Ratio
  • Monitoring Coverage Percentage
  • Reduction in Critical Incidents Caused by System Failure

What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a monitoring support or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of Linux OS and core IT infrastructure (servers, databases, cloud environments).
  • Proficiency in using and managing monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar.
  • Experience with log management and analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and monitoring tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail and a proactive approach.
  • Familiarity with network protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.).
