We are seeking a Clinical Instructor in Surgical Pathology—a physician at a pivotal moment in their career—ready to deepen their diagnostic expertise while shaping the next generation of pathologists. This position will begin as a Clinical Fellow and, following a defined evaluation period and successful approval, will transition to Clinical Instructor, Surgical Pathology within our Anatomic Pathology service. In this role, the incumbent will balance high-level diagnostic practice with the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Designed as a purposeful bridge to faculty, this position offers a structured pathway for highly skilled senior fellows to advance into an academic career at Roswell Park.

This role offers a unique balance of high-impact clinical practice, academic engagement, and meaningful teaching, within a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

The Role
As a Clinical Instructor, you will serve as both a diagnostician and educator—contributing directly to patient care while mentoring trainees across all levels of medical education.

You will:
Deliver diagnostic excellence by reviewing and signing out cases across subspecialties such as Breast/GYN or Gastrointestinal Pathology
Teach and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students through lectures, case-based learning, and hands-on supervision
Consult across disciplines as a trusted expert, guiding colleagues through complex diagnostic challenges
Contribute to program excellence by supporting evaluation, curriculum development, and the ongoing evolution of our Pathology residency program

Clinical & Academic Experience
This role is designed to provide graduated autonomy within a highly supportive academic framework:
Work closely with attending pathologists, progressing toward independent sign-out privileges as appropriate
Demonstrate and refine proficiency in gross examination and specimen evaluation
Present regularly at multidisciplinary conferences, departmental grand rounds, and trainee forums
Participate actively in institutional committees, quality initiatives, and educational program evaluation

Training & Professional Development
At Roswell Park, your growth is intentional and supported. You will:
Develop a personalized program of self-directed study and academic advancement
Engage in a rich educational environment that emphasizes clinical excellence, ethical practice, and systems-based care
Gain exposure to the broader considerations shaping modern medicine, including health equity, cost-conscious care, and medico-legal frameworks

Work Schedule
Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (with flexibility based on clinical and teaching responsibilities)
Call responsibilities (initiated after approximately 6 months, upon attainment of privileges):
Weeknight and weekend coverage on a rotating basis
Supported by attending pathologists at all times
