What you need to know 

Proposed Salary: $20.00 hourly

Work Schedule/Location: Located in Dallas, TX, this an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience in clinical billing, medical coding, payment posting, claims processing or related. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in business administration or closely related field.

  • Four years of related experience in clinical billing, medical coding, payment posting, claims processing or related.

  • Experience with revenue cycle management. Experience with Epic EMR

  • AAPC or AHIMA Medical Coding Certification

  • Extensive understanding of medical billing and Texas Medicaid

  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems, specifically EPIC; certified billing coder. 

  • Knowledge of TAMU rules and regulations. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Expertise in clinical billing, claims processes and payment posting

  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines, general understanding and working knowledge of electronic medical record systems (such as Epic)

  • Knowledge of word processing and Microsoft Excel spreadsheet applications.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to utilize sound judgment.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

Responsibilities

Payment Posting and Reconciliation

  • Accurately posts payments received from various payers (insurance, patients) into the medical billing or practice management system.

  • Posts claim denials and takes necessary actions, such as resubmitting claims or transferring balances to patients.

  • Collects and matches payments to patient accounts and ensuring the accuracy of financial records and creates a report for designated personnel.


Explanation of Benefits

  • Retrieves explanation of benefits (EOBs) for all insurance payments received.

  • Interprets and processes electronic remittance advice (ERAs) and explanations of benefits (EOBs) from insurance payers to apply payments correctly.

  • Investigates and resolves any issues, exceptions, or discrepancies found during the payment posting process.

 

Customer Service

  • Checks in patients, assisting them with their questions and needs.

  • Verifies patients’ insurance eligibility and benefits and obtains referrals and/or authorizations required for payment.

  • Calls patients and insurance companies to investigate insurance and patient benefits. 

  • Presents and explains Dental and Medical treatment plans to patients.
