Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accurately and timely documents patient assessments, interventions, evaluates overall response of patient/family.

  • patient/family response to care, and revises the plan of care as needed, along with any patient/family education.

  • Assists with post-operative Physical Therapy protocols and research / standard of care questionnaires assignments based on patient/diagnosis.

  • Effectively assists in the prevention, assessment and treatment of sports related injury by providing brace fittings, functional assessments, home exercise programs, etc.

  • Coordinates outside therapy and other referrals for patient families as needed.

  • Enters orders and referrals as delegated by the provider or standing policy

  • Performs telephone triage assessment to manage a patient/parent/guardian call to determine the urgency of the medical issue, appropriate recommendation for care and intervention (with escalation to provider as appropriate), and timing of appointment scheduling, if needed.

  • Provides individualized patient/parent education utilizing input from the family

  • Communicates sport-specific education and limitations with athletic trainers, coaches, etc.

  • Takes responsibility for own professional development, asking questions to gain professional insight, enhance clinical skills and function as an effective part of the team.

  • Participates in educational events & serves as a preceptor for new staff

  • Accountable for meeting the standards of patient/personal safety and in maintaining a clean and therapeutic environment

  • Assists clinic staff with administrative needs

  • Maintains patient information and documentation in electronic medical record

  • Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patient rights

  • Supports hospital and departmental performance improvement goals

  • Supports quality care through compliance with departmental and organizational policies and guidelines, and external agency guidelines, standards, or regulations

  • Supports departmental initiatives and change efforts

  • Practices financial and resource stewardship

  • Engages in strong communication, acts as team player in supporting mission and vision of organization, and abides by organization’s core values

  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in an athletic training program or related field required

  • National Athletic Trainer’s Association certification required

  • License in the state of Texas required

  • BLS required

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience preferred
