Job Summary: This position will provide Civil/Structural engineering and design support while located at the site. You will independently apply advanced engineering techniques, make decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represent the organization in project meetings to resolve important questions or to negotiate with key engineers and officials in other organizations. You will provide technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers and be consulted extensively by associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Responsible for technical content on construction released civil / structural drawings
Responsible for planning, design, and production of engineering drawings and specifications.
Responsible for preparing structural calculations
Responsible for supporting construction phase of projects such as problem-solving, responding to RFI’s, shop drawing review, etc.
Responsible for coordinating and interfacing civil/structural work with other design and engineering disciplines.

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required. Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions.
Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Professional Engineer License for Virginia preferred, or the ability to complete this certification within 18 months
Demonstrated ability to perform civil/structural work safely and effectively in an industrial environment.
Experience in working with and mentoring designers/team members
Experience in communicating job packages/projects with construction and plant personal.
Experience in developing scopes of work, task analysis, material list and project schedules
Experience with 2D MicroStation
Physical Requirements
Work is located at a chemical plant and requires exposure to ambient temperature extremes
Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hats and steel-toed boots
Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs. frequently, etc.
Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking up stairs
Will require walking the project property
