About the role
We are currently seeking a Civil Liability Unit Manager to play a key role in supporting our operations.
WORKPLACE: Laval, Quebec City, downtown Montreal or Saint-Hyacinthe in hybrid mode
As a Unit Manager, you will be part of the civil liability management team. We are seeking a candidate who will foster engagement, build trust and promote the company’s vision and values. You will provide both technical and operational support to employees by answering a wide range of questions related to insurance coverage and liability, while helping achieve company goals, ensuring efficient operations, workforce planning and budget compliance—all with a strong focus on customer service.
What you’ll do here:
Help develop and implement business plans and manage operations to achieve core business objectives.
Provide effective leadership, motivate team members, oversee hiring and conduct performance evaluations.
Guide your team in developing their technical and professional skills, and foster continuous learning by creating strong development plans for employees.
Support employees in making informed decisions regarding claim eligibility, insurance coverage and liability.
Develop, recommend and implement management and organizational initiatives that align with corporate strategies, including structural changes and process or technology improvements.
Act as a consultant and advisor on claims issues such as liability determination, policy interpretation and settlement negotiation to help resolve claims issues.
Liaise with other departments and claims adjusters on technical and administrative matters.
Maintain respectful business relationships with brokers, service providers, law firms and internal client groups.
What you bring to the table:
College or university degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Class 5a claims adjuster licence (asset)
Strong expertise in insurance policy analysis and civil liability
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage staff at all levels
Staff coaching and development experience
Demonstrated leadership skills
Excellent customer service skills
Knowledge of provincial auto, home and civil liability insurance regulations
Bilingualism (English and French): You will be required to interact with colleagues from across the country on a regular basis
