The Charles L. Brown Science & Engineering Library in Clark Hall is seeking undergraduate student workers for spring semester 2026 and moving forward.
The Circulation Desk and its staff create the first impression library users have with Brown Library (P.O. Box 400109, Charlottesville, VA 22903). The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks related to Circulation services for library patrons at assigned service points and occasionally work on special projects.
Punctuality, attention to detail, and dependability are the essential components of this position. Duties include providing customer service for library patrons; generally focused on charging, discharging, and renewing library materials. You must be comfortable with data entry, the use of standard office software programs and working within established guidelines and policies. You must possess a strong attention to detail, the ability to learn the Library of Congress call number system, the ability to work independently, and be proactive. This is a customer/visitor service job. Your resume should highlight any customer/visitor service experience.
FWSA (i.e., Work-Study) eligibility is preferred and will be looked at first. Work Study employment is effective from 08/26/25 - 05/08/26. The pay rate for this position is $14.53/hour.

Currently looking for applicants that can be openers or closers. You must be able to work at least two to three opening (8am-10am) or closing (12am-2am) shifts per week. Our current schedule is Mon-Thu 8am-2am, Fri 8am-9pm, Sat 9am-6pm and Sun 10am-2am.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. Must be able to push a full book cart and lift 15 pounds.
