China Purchasing Director

You will join China Purchasing Team and base in Suzhou, your main responsibilities are:

  • Strategy Development & Execution: Formulate and implement China procurement strategies in alignment with global category management guidelines, focusing on cost reduction, supply chain optimization, and risk mitigation.
  • Supplier Management & Development: Lead the end-to-end supplier lifecycle management, including sourcing, qualification, negotiation, contract management, and performance evaluation. Develop strategic partnerships with key suppliers, drive supplier development initiatives, and ensure compliance with Prysmian's quality, sustainability, and ethical standards.
  • Cost & Performance Optimization: Drive cost optimization initiatives across the procurement portfolio, including raw materials (e.g., copper, aluminum, optical fiber), components, and services. Monitor and report procurement KPIs (cost savings, supplier performance, compliance rate) to regional and global management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with local business units, R&D, manufacturing, quality, and finance teams to align procurement strategies with business needs. Support new product development (NPD) and manufacturing transfer projects with timely and cost-effective procurement solutions.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing procurement team across China. Establish clear performance objectives, provide coaching and mentorship, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure full compliance with Chinese laws and regulations, as well as Prysmian's global policies (anti-corruption, data privacy, environmental protection). Conduct procurement risk assessments, develop business continuity plans (BCP), and proactively mitigate supply chain risks (e.g., geopolitical, market, environmental).
  • Global Synergy & Localization: Leverage global procurement resources and best practices while driving localization initiatives to enhance supply chain agility and cost competitiveness. Act as the key liaison between China procurement team and global procurement functions.

Who we are looking for

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related fields. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum 15 years of procurement experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role (Director level or equivalent) in multinational manufacturing companies. Experience in the cable, electrical, automotive, or energy industry is highly preferred. Familiarity with Prysmian's product portfolio (energy cables, telecom cables) is a plus.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams. Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and change management capabilities.
  • Negotiation & Commercial Acumen: Excellent negotiation, contract management, and commercial skills. Demonstrated experience in driving significant cost savings and value optimization.
  • Supplier & Supply Chain Expertise: Deep understanding of China's supply market, particularly in raw materials, manufacturing components, and industrial services. Proven experience in supplier development and supply chain risk management.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin. Ability to communicate effectively with global stakeholders.
  • Technical & Digital Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and procurement digital tools (e.g., SRM) is preferred.
  • Core Competencies: High ethical standards, strong results orientation, excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, global business environment.
