Job Description:
The Chief Product Officer (CPO) is responsible for shaping and executing the comprehensive product strategy for the global High Net Worth (HNW) business. This executive position holds oversight of all facets of product design, pricing, governance, lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, and innovation within the HNW portfolio. The CPO is committed to prudent capital investment, maintaining sustainable financial performance, and fostering strong relationships across Distribution, Underwriting, Operations, Finance, Compliance and Risk. This pivotal leadership role advances the strategic growth objectives of the HNW business at Sun Life.
The CPO develops and refines the HNW product strategy, ensuring alignment with the broader business objectives. Responsibilities include managing every phase of the product lifecycle—from initial concept and pricing, through approval and launch, to ongoing performance assessment and enhancement. The CPO balances growth ambitions, profitability, capital utilization, and risk management, and oversees portfolio rationalization as needed to optimize results.
Accountable for product P&L, the CPO safeguards margin integrity and partners closely with Finance to drive capital efficiency and enhance embedded value. This role enforces disciplined pricing and maintains robust governance over assumptions, continuously tracking product performance and implementing corrective actions whenever necessary.
The CPO supervises regulatory submissions and product approvals across multiple jurisdictions. Upholding rigorous governance and documentation standards, the CPO ensures comprehensive audit alignment and full compliance with regulatory requirements.
Collaboration across Distribution, Underwriting, Operations, IT, and Risk teams is central to the CPO’s responsibilities. The CPO guarantees that product roadmaps are actionable and backed by suitable technology and operational infrastructure, while championing transparent decision-making and clear accountability throughout the organization.
The CPO identifies opportunities within HNW market segments, conducts in-depth competitive analysis, and drives product differentiation. Innovation is actively promoted, provided that robust risk controls are maintained at all times.
The CPO leads and develops a high-performing, geographically distributed product team, which is currently concentrated in North America. The role strengthens succession planning and builds strong talent pipelines, fostering a culture of responsibility, teamwork, excellence and consistent execution.
