Chief Photographer, West Africa

This role is for an experienced and inspirational photojournalist or picture editor who will lead and elevate Reuters’ photo coverage across West Africa — from Senegal, Mauritania, and Cape Verde across to Ghana and down to the Gulf of Guinea.

The Chief Photographer, West Africa will champion Reuters’ One Visuals strategy by integrating Pictures and Video, delivering standout coverage to the world’s largest digital and print news audiences. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with text colleagues to provide customers and consumers with exemplary, deeply reported multimedia journalism.

A firm commitment to the Reuters Trust Principles — independence, integrity, and freedom from bias — is essential, as is absolute dedication to the safety of all photographers contributing to Reuters.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate impeccable news judgment and a strong track record of leading significant, high-impact visual journalism respected across the industry. They should bring openness to new ideas and workflows, agility in managing change, and the foresight to identify and develop the next generation of visual journalists from diverse backgrounds.

  • Lead, motivate, and communicate effectively with staff and freelance photographers across West Africa.

  • Discover, nurture, and elevate diverse talent across the region.

  • Champion multimedia and cross-asset collaboration to drive impactful storytelling.

  • Manage budgets and collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Global Editor, Reuters Pictures.
