Job responsibilities
 

The Chief Engineer serves as the technical leader within the product engineering team, driving the design, development, and delivery of advanced mechanical solutions for Flotation equipment. This role ensures engineering excellence across all phases of the product lifecycle—from concept and design through manufacturing and field support. The Chief Engineer provides direction on design integrity, oversees complex projects, and champions innovation to enhance product performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. Acting as a key liaison between engineering, operations, and customers, this position ensures that all solutions meet stringent industry standards, customer specifications, and safety requirements while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical mentorship within the team.     

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide technical leadership for mechanical engineering projects within the Flotation product line.

  • Ensure overall design integrity and compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.

  • Review and approve engineering designs, including 3D models, detailed drawings, and mechanical calculations.

  • Work with minimal supervision while managing multiple projects in parallel.

  • Collaborate with Product Line Management to define product requirements and strategic direction.

  • Direct standardization, product improvement, and value engineering initiatives to optimize performance and cost.

  • Contribute to research and development projects to advance product innovation.

  • Guide and mentor engineers, designers, and drafters, supporting technical development within the team.

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (Process, Electrical, Automation) to meet project deliverables.

  • Analyze complex design problems and develop innovative solutions and improved techniques.

  • Work with global resources to complete engineering deliverables efficiently.

  • Travel to job sites and regional offices as required for equipment troubleshooting, installation support, manufacturing assistance, and sales efforts.

  • Assist operations with manufacturing challenges and implementation of low-cost sourcing initiatives.

  • Participate in developing design standards, guide specifications, and design control procedures.

  • Actively engage in a team environment with other lead engineers, designers, and drafters to achieve project goals.
     

What you bring

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role.

  • Proven track record of managing complex engineering projects from concept to completion.
     

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in mechanical design principles, calculations, and analysis.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and 3D modeling.

  • Proficiency in CAE software (e.g. Ansys).

  • Proficiency in MS Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
     

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Ability to lead and mentor engineering teams effectively.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
     

Preferred

  • Successful completion of PE Exam (or equivalent).

  • Experience with value engineering and product development.

  • Knowledge of sourcing strategies and cost optimization.

  • Willingness to travel for site visits and client support.
