Background
Retail Banking Services (RBS) is the public face of CommBank, delivering a seamless banking experience for the future, to our 10 million+ personal and small business customers. Within RBS, the Home Buying team aims to unlock the dream of home ownership for all Australians.
This role sits within Home Buying domain’s Core Manufacturing Crew and is embedded in the Product Strategy and Governance Squad, which is one of four squads within the crew’s Product Management Value Stream. Although formally part of the Product Strategy and Governance Squad, the Chapter Lead oversees all Product Management Chapter members across the Value Stream. This includes supporting Product Managers in the Product Strategy & Governance Squad, Solve Customer Breakpoints Squad, the Product Features and Experience Squad, and the Simple Package Experience Squad.
As Chapter Lead, you operate as a seasoned Product Management expert across the Value Stream. You coach, develop and enable Product Managers to deliver exceptional customer and shareholder outcomes. You work in close partnership with Product Owners and play a critical leadership role that links product strategy, customer insights, risk and governance, and delivery execution. You influence how Product Management is practiced across Home Buying and ensure safe, commercially sound and customer centred outcomes.

Within Core Manufacturing Crew, the Product Management Value Stream is accountable for designing, shaping and improving the products and experiences that help Australians achieve home ownership safely and sustainably. The Product Strategy and Governance Squad focuses on establishing and maintaining core product strategy, product integrity, customer outcomes and risk and regulatory obligations.
In this role, you will:
Report directly to the Chapter Area Lead, Product Management, within the Core Manufacturing Crew.
Hold a dotted line accountability to the Product Owner, Product Strategy and Governance, particularly for matters relating to product integrity, risk, regulatory scrutiny and product reviews.
Deliver on the core product strategy and roadmap.
Deliver a market leading customer value proposition
Deliver and maintain safe and compliant products in line with the product design and distribution obligations.
Lead 6-8 product managers across the Value Stream
Develop product management capability and coach chapter members to reach their potential, directly influencing the performance and career outcomes of your chapter members.
Contribute to and influence outcomes for the Home Buying Chapter Area as a member of the product chapter leadership team
More specifically, you will:
Lead, coach and develop Product Managers across the entire Product Management Value Stream.
Provide hands-on development to your direct Chapter members and support Product Managers embedded across four squads.
Define and uplift the standards and practices of Product Management and share best practice across the Crew and the broader Home Buying domain.
Work in a light matrix model with Product Owners, who define the what, while you define and uplift the how of Product Management.
Collaborate with Chapter Leads from analytics, technology, channels, operations and risk to ensure aligned decision making.
Partner with Distribution, Line 1 Risk, Line 2 Compliance, Corporate Affairs, Operations and Lending teams to ensure safe and sustainable product outcomes.
Act as the key second in charge to the Product Owner for Strategy and Governance for high scrutiny regulatory matters, including product reviews and product integrity requirements.
Own and evolve core product strategy end to end.
Steward TMDs, design obligations, DDO artefacts, product integrity controls and Reasonable Steps documentation.
Support Product Owners to embed strategy into squad roadmaps and backlogs and ensure alignment across squads.
Identify, assess and advise on product risk issues across the Value Stream.
We want to hear from people who have:
Extensive Product Management leadership experience within financial services (required).
Deep expertise in regulated product environments, including DDO, TMDs, compliance and risk management.
Experience working in a matrix environment with strong ability to influence without authority.
Strong commercial acumen and systems thinking
Excellent communication, strategic writing and storytelling skills.
A proven track record of elevating Product Management capability and coaching teams at all levels.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgement that balances customer outcomes, commercial considerations and risk.
Demonstrated ability to operate at pace while maintaining discipline and safe execution.
Strong customer focus and commitment to delivering high quality and sustainable outcomes.
