Certified Welder Inspector

The Certified Welder inspector (CWI) insures that weld performed on tactical vehicle equipment and other equipment is implemented as required by customer’s requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

Provide expertise and technical support by assuring that materials, processes, fabrication techniques, inspections, test and testing personnel meet the specifications and contractual requirements.   Conduct inspections and tests on equipment to maintain the integrity of the fixed equipment.   Inspection of internal and external surfaces, seams, baffles and welds for damage or deficiencies and perform metal repairs including some light metal fabrication.   Operate a variety of metal cutting equipment including, but not limited to gas torch, plasma cutter, and pneumatic wet saw, also operate welding equipment including TIG welder, MIG welder and Arc welder to attach metals including aluminum, steel and stainless.   Identifies, examines, classifies, inspects and reports on specific and general issues of safety and environmental. Examinations may be visual or require measuring devices and techniques.   Probably interpret regulations, codes and industry standards; as well as, read specifications, drawings, prints, schematics and photographs.   May assist with developing welding procedures qualifications for critical welds.   Compile reports on safety, environmental or security issues in a timely manner.   Use a computer to compile and submit daily reports and inspection reports, as well as for inter-office communications.   Identify and report potential threats of environmental and security related issues and violations.   Pay attention to detail and be capable of recommending and approving repairs as well as performing visual inspection of completed work.   Research innovations from internal/external sources and applies to projects or processes. Create new methods and procedures to achieve work goals.   Maintain a positive relationship between client, facility and customer.


Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical shop environment with no unusual hazards, must regularly lift, carry, push and pull up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 45 pounds.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands for handling and fingers to hold, grasp, pinch and turn objects; and talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to balance, walk with legs and feet; reaches with hands and arms; and stoop, bend, kneel, crouches, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb. The employee must be able to smell and feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to noise, moving mechanical parts and equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; and outside weather conditions which include extreme heat and cold.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must have minimum of five (5) years’ experience and be a CWI (Certified Welder Inspector) with the ability to visually inspect weldments.

  • Good written and spoken communication and analytical skills and a working knowledge of basic computer systems and software programs is required.

  • Must have a valid and current state driver's license.

  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards including AWS, ASME, ASTM, Fed Spec, MIL-STD is a plus.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

  • Passing a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check is required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check (NAC) within 60 days of hire if required.

  • Must be available for any shift. Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.
