Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Specialty Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting standardization and optimization of specialty pharmacy services across Bon Secours Mercy Health. The goal of Specialty Pharmacy Technician is to perform the basic duties of a specialty pharmacy technician in all designated sites. Including and not limited to, prescription data entry, as well as communicate and coordinate with all parties necessary to insure timely shipping and delivery of specialty medication prescription orders. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician is responsible for under general supervision, assisting the pharmacist to fill prescriptions, select, assemble, and place medications for specialty services. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician will have a variety of job responsibilities within the specialty pharmacy that will encompass various activities.
Essential Job Functions
Process prescription information in the computer system
Assist customers with prescriptions and/or other products
Assist in the preparation and delivery of medications and supplies as assigned
Coordinate and ensure appropriate medication delivery
Complete the work of a pharmacy technician as required
Provide initial patient set up to establish account with the specialty pharmacy
Contact insurance carriers, benefits offices, and patients to determine new and ongoing coverage levels:
Plan and schedule patient deliveries with respect to efficiency, time, priority, product specific shipping needs, and cost effectiveness

Licensing/Certification
ExCPT Certification provided by the National Health Career Association or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification and registration with State Board of Pharmacy (required)
Education
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Completion of ASHP/ACPE tech training program - or - pharmacy technician training via Armed Forces/Veterans Affairs - or respective state department approved career tech high school program (preferred)
Work Experience
Previous experience working in Retail, Ambulatory, Outpatient, Hospital, Acute Care, or Home Infusion pharmacy (preferred)
