Job Description
Fugro is seeking a Category Manager for our head office in Nootdorp, the Netherlands, to take strategic ownership of two critical procurement categories. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast‑moving, international environment where many processes are still being shaped — and who has the experience and confidence to build a future‑proof way of working from the ground up.
Consumables – building a fully automated buying environment
You will lead the creation of a fully automated, catalogue‑based purchasing landscape for Consumables. Working closely with IT, you will design and implement the systems and processes needed to deliver a seamless buying experience. This is a true greenfield opportunity: you will define the sourcing strategy, introduce a catalogue‑driven process globally, and directly influence how Fugro purchases consumables for years to come.
Fuel – managing a strategically critical global category
You will also manage the Fuel category, covering marine bunker fuel, lubricants, chemicals and gases. With a global fleet of around 32 vessels, plus chartered and uncrewed assets, bunker fuel represents a major and strategically vital spend area. As Fugro accelerates its transition toward lower‑carbon alternatives such as methanol, your first major challenge will be mitigating supply risks in a rapidly evolving fuel market.
Working closely with stakeholders worldwide, you will develop and execute a global category strategy that reduces risk, drives cost efficiency, supports sustainability ambitions and ensures compliance with Fugro’s standards and guidelines. This role combines strategic ownership with hands‑on delivery, giving you the opportunity to make a clear and lasting impact on Fugro’s procurement landscape.
Your role
Act as a strategic business partner, aligning category strategies with operational needs and engaging stakeholders across regions, vessels, and functional teams;
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and manage supplier performance to ensure reliable delivery, quality and compliance with Fugro standards;
Conduct market research and supplier assessments, integrating ESG and sustainability criteria into decision‑making and identifying new suppliers that meet Fugro’s requirements;
Lead end‑to‑end sourcing activities (RFQs, RFPs, evaluations, negotiations) for key global projects to secure optimal commercial and contractual outcomes;
Identify and deliver total cost of ownership improvements, drive savings initiatives and implement efficient, scalable procurement practices;
Monitor market trends, regulatory changes and industry developments, ensuring compliance and providing stakeholders with clear updates on category performance and emerging risks;
Define, track and report KPIs, including ESG and sustainability metrics, and conduct regular supplier performance reviews to drive continuous improvement.
Your trackrecord
You bring at least 7 years of experience in category management, gained in a complex, international organisation. Ideally you also have relevant experience in the maritime, offshore or energy sector;
You have successfully developed and executed category strategies and have built or improved procurement processes, ideally including catalogue‑based or automated purchasing environments;
You are skilled in business partnering, working effectively with operational, technical and commercial stakeholders;
You demonstrate strong negotiation capability, securing competitive commercial outcomes and managing strategic suppliers;
You understand ESG and sustainability considerations and can integrate them into sourcing decisions and supplier evaluations.
What Fugro offers
Based on your relevant experience, the salary ranges from €6.170 to €7.716. This amount is part of our salary range, with opportunities for growth within the role;
29 holidays per year based on a fulltime employment (of which 4 are appointed by Fugro management) and the possibility to purchase 12 additional days;
