About This Opportunity 

As a Casual Library IT Officer, you will provide expert support to clients on both personal devices and UQ systems. You will collaborate across Library services, contribute to service improvements and projects, and liaise with other university departments.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Technology Support and Complex Troubleshooting

  • Provide direct support to students and Library clients experiencing difficulties with UQ systems and their personal devices (BYOD). This involves analysing complex scenarios, troubleshooting, identifying problems, and resolving issues, including those without existing documentation.

Client-Focused Solutions and Referrals

  • Assess client needs to provide effective technical solutions, support, and advice, both in-person and via remote assistance methods. You will actively research and identify optimal solutions, liaising with other stakeholders to resolve complex and multi-source issues.

Process Improvement and Documentation

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the client experience and team efficiencies. This includes reviewing, updating, and creating documentation to ensure consistent ways of working, and actively supporting training sessions for other Library staff.

Project Engagement and Continuous Development

  • Participate in and engage with Library initiatives and IT projects, advising and assisting in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies. You are responsible for continuously developing professional and technical skills, including learning new specialised UQ systems, to maintain expertise.

Please note:

  • Carrying out of duties outside of normal work hours may be required.

  • The University of Queensland Library reserves the right to transfer staff to any of its services.

  • Shifts are expected to be rostered around 10 hours per week.

About You  

Essential

  • Hold a bachelor's degree with a strong computing focus (or equivalent experience/training).

  • Possess significant experience supporting various operating systems (Windows, Unix/Linux, Macintosh, mobile).

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, collaborating effectively with colleagues across the university.

  • Exhibit strong problem-solving skills for complex issues, utilizing an organized and detail-oriented approach.  Possess a proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service in an IT environment, maintaining composure under pressure.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and manage projects effectively, including self-motivation, prioritization, and workload management skills.

Desirable

  • Progress towards an industry qualification program in hardware, network, or operating systems management

  • Experience in the university or tertiary education sector.

You must maintain the necessary work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
