Career Planning Counselor

Primary Purpose

To provide expert guidance to college students and their families around all aspects of career planning; build client relationships; and contribute to the collective knowledge of the education team to provide the best quality counseling in support of all families we serve.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Deliver expertise through phone counseling sessions and seminars related to all aspects of the major and career exploration process (including guiding students through reflection and career inventories, understanding and leveraging resources within their high school, college, and community, and managing expectations and goals)

  • Provide clear and actionable feedback on student resumes and essays, and in response to questions submitted via the help desk

  • Connect with a diverse group of students and parents at various socioeconomic levels and help them successfully navigate their path from high school or college to career

  • Collaborate with coaching staff across College Coach and EdAssist for career planning support, contributing to internal projects as required. This may include: development/revision of client-facing curriculum or educator-facing training materials; social media initiatives; service delivery best practices; other internal areas of interest.

  • Other counseling and coaching duties as assigned

What we hope you will bring to this role:

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or related field desired

  • Five years of experience in career advising in a university setting

  • Experience advising high school students and their families a plus

  • Familiarity with alternatives to four-year degree pathways (associate’s degrees, trade schools, apprenticeships, etc.) a plus

  • Passion for career education and a commitment to increasing career pathways for a broad constituency of students.

  • The ability to reach all audiences and meet families where they are in the process

  • High degree of integrity

  • Confident presence, strong relationship building skills, and a professional manner

  • Strong editing and writing ability coupled with attention to detail

  • High level presentation skills in both large group and individual settings

  • Work a flexible schedule, including some evening or weekend appointments

  • Physically located on West Coast or western region of US preferred

  • Access to reliable internet required

Compensation:

TThe annual salary for this position is between $79,000 and $88,000 annually . The pay range listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates offering for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.
