The Utah County Sheriff’s Department is the primary law enforcement agency in the county, responsible for maintaining public safety and preserving the peace. The Sheriff and deputies make arrests, oversee the courts and the County Correctional Facility, and prepare legal documents for the Sheriff’s sale.

The Opportunity:
This position coordinates and directs wildland fire field operations and supervises fire personnel under the direction of the County Fire Chief. The role serves as an assistant to the Battalion Chief and includes direct supervisory responsibility.
Starting Pay: 722 Grade A $26.74 to Step G $30.74 (based on skills and experience)
Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Four (4) years of professional wildland fire suppression experience
• At least two (2) years of experience as a squad leader or in a related supervisory role
• Knowledge of wildland fire operations, fire ground and emergency operations, Urban Interface firefighting, and the Incident Command System
Certifications and Eligibility
• Must possess or obtain within eighteen (18) months National Wildfire Coordination Group (NWCG) certification as a Single Resource Boss (Red Card)
• Must be qualified as NWCG ITC-5 or higher, or obtain qualification within eighteen (18) months
• Must meet and maintain the arduous level Work Capacity Test (WCT) annually
• Valid driver’s license with ability to obtain a State of Utah driver’s license within sixty (60) days of employment
• Ability to work irregular shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced training in wildland fire suppression tactics and management
Additional Requirements
• Ability to supervise and mentor personnel
• Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-stress and hazardous situations
• Ability to travel extensively during fire season, including out-of-state assignments
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check
