About you and this role

Dow has an exciting internship opportunity within the Analytical Center of Excellence (ACE) Hydrocarbons laboratory in Terneuzen. You’ll work in a dynamic, multinational environment and collaborate with colleagues in ACE and R&D while contributing to a project that supports a critical 24/7 lab service operation.
 

This role is open to qualified ambitious bachelor’s and master’s students, supporting scientists and engineers by developing analytical method(s).
The internship is designed for students who can succeed academically while gaining hands-on professional experience in an operational laboratory setting.
 

About the project

The ACE Hydrocarbons laboratory in Terneuzen provides 24/7 analytical support to the Hydrocarbon plants. With growing demand for ultra-trace metal analysis (ppb levels) across multiple sample streams, we are implementing an ICP‑MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) instrument and establishing robust methods suitable for round‑the‑clock operation.

As part of the implementation project, you will help develop, validate, and implement ICP‑MS analytical methods and associated workflows. You’ll work with a range of sample matrices, including: (sustainable) cracker feedstocks, in‑process samples, final product samples & water samples

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample preparation
  • Support laboratory upkeep and safe, organized working practices
  • Operate the ICP‑MS instrument and supporting equipment
  • Collect, document, and manage analytical data
  • Analyze and interpret results to support method performance and troubleshooting
  • Method development, validation, and implementation for routine 24/7 use
  • Summarize outcomes and present results and conclusions to stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Applied Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Strong working knowledge of English. Good Dutch language proficiency is considered a plus.
  • You can start between August and October 2026 for a duration of five to six months (exact timing to be discussed)

Your skills

  • Proficiency in analytical chemistry and method development
  • ICP/ICP‑MS experience is a plus
  • Structured way of working with strong attention to quality and safety
  • Able to communicate results clearly (written and oral) in a multicultural environment
     

Additional notes

  • There is no visa support for this role.
  • Selected candidates are expected to work on-site in Terneuzen, the Netherlands.
