What you will do

Johnson Controls is hiring! As a Calibration (Metrology) Technician, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of cutting‑edge engineering and test systems. You’ll be at the heart of our laboratory operations, responsible for the calibration, verification, maintenance, and documentation of precision instrumentation and test equipment that enables innovation.

This is a highly hands-on role where no two days are the same. You’ll provide direct engineering support, assembling cables and measurement panels, troubleshooting electrical devices, and driving corrective actions to resolve instrumentation and data quality challenges. Your expertise will help ensure measurements are traceable, compliant with quality standards, and ready to support advanced development work. You’ll work onsite at our Advanced Development and Engineering facility in New Freedom, PA, collaborating closely with engineers and technical experts in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. Candidates must be within commuting distance to the facility.

How you will do it  

  • Perform accurate and timely calibration, verification, and adjustment of electrical, pressure, temperature, and electronic measuring equipment using established company procedures and schedules 

  • Calibrate equipment to internal, national, and international standards and ensure compliance with standards where applicable (NIST traceability, ISO 17025, ISO 9001, etc.) 

  • Evaluate measurement equipment suitability and accuracy for application 

  • Interpret calibration specifications, tolerances, and uncertainty requirements 

  • Identify out‑of‑tolerance conditions, recommend, and provide corrective actions 

  • Maintain equipment history, traceability, and recall schedules in calibration databases and IndySoft, our established Calibration Management System (CMS) 

  • Maintain calibration intervals and inventory of test equipment to support effective test lab operations and readiness 

  • Perform minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting and facilitate external repairs 

  • Write, review, and update calibration procedures and work instructions 

  • Assist engineering and technical teams to troubleshoot and provide corrective actions to resolve measurement, instrumentation, and data quality issues 

  • Works closely with Test Lab team to construct and assemble cable assemblies, measurement panels, and instrumentation systems

  • Train operators on proper use and handling of measuring devices 

  • Implement and improve testing procedures, showcasing dedication to continuous improvement and problem-solving 

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support effective test lab operations 

 

What we look for  

  • Associate degree or technical certificate in engineering science or related technical discipline (EE, EET, EMET, Metrology)

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in a technical environment 

  • Experience with data acquisition systems (DAQ) and related electronic instrumentation including sensors, software, hardware, cables, connectors, and networked data communications 

  • Experience with electrical and electronic assembly techniques including soldering and hand crimp tools 

  • Experience troubleshooting basic electronic circuits 

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $60,000 - $85,000 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
