Introduction to role

The Business Performance Analyst sits within the Transformation, Strategy & Operations team and reports to the Head of Portfolio, Capacity, and Business Operations. In this critical role, the Analyst transforms complex business data—spanning portfolio, capacity, capital investments, workforce planning, and other operational metrics—into actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. The Analyst delivers executive-level analysis, forward-looking simulations, and compelling visualizations that highlight budget requirements, performance gaps, trends, variances, and future projections. A strong passion for leveraging advanced analytics, AI, and automation to boost productivity is essential. This role operates in an environment with evolving priorities, fragmented data sources, and incomplete requirements. The successful candidate will proactively find opportunities, develop analytical questions, and independently manage their workload across multiple workstreams. This is a high-impact position with direct influence on the department’s portfolio, capacity, and operational excellence.

Accountabilities

  • Extract, clean, integrate, and analyze large volumes of business data (portfolio, capacity, capital, workforce, financial, and operational datasets). 
  • Perform variance analysis, trend analysis, change analysis, and root-cause investigations. 
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and governance across multiple sources.
  • Develop and apply advanced modeling techniques, including Monte Carlo simulation and other probabilistic methods. 
  • Support scenario planning, risk assessment, capacity forecasting, resource optimization, and long-range projections. 
  • Translate modeling outputs into clear business implications and recommendations.
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and advanced visualizations using Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA), Microsoft PowerBI, and Smartsheet. 
  • Create executive-level visualizations that effectively communicate growth drivers, performance gaps, trends, variances, changes, and forward-looking projections.
  • Generate that deliver actionable business insights, trends, and recommended actions for effective business decision making. 
  • Provide dedicated support to the budget planning (LTP, MTP, and RBU) and operational planning through timely data preparation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Track, benchmark, and report on key performance metrics and indicators against internal targets and industry standards, including portfolio, capacity, and operational performance indicators.
  • Prepare high-impact materials for senior leadership and cross-functional collaborators.
  • Champion the adoption of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and low-code automation platforms, including Microsoft Copilot Studio and similar tools, to accelerate productivity and deliver proactive, actionable business insights. 
  • Develop custom scripts and solutions using SQL, Python, R, and other programming languages to automate analysis and reporting processes. 
  • Apply platform-based AI tools (such as Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Azure AI) together with custom development to automate repeated tasks and manual processes, build intelligent automation solutions, and enhance decision-making capabilities.
  • Continuously identify and implement opportunities to drive analytical innovation and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with Portfolio Strategy, Finance, Manufacturing, GPPM, and TSO Leads, and other functions to align analytics with business priorities. 
  • Support Transformation initiatives through data-driven insights and performance tracking. 
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of reporting processes, data infrastructure, and analytical frameworks.
  • Use AI and automation to streamline business processes and increase transparency.
  • Support in a project management or lead capacity to drive the development and implementation of relevant projects related to business data and operations.
  • Own and maintain support for tools, processes, and systems that enable business data management and operations.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Finance, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in business performance analysis, data analytics, or strategy roles (biopharmaceutical or life sciences experience strongly preferred). 
  • Ability to understand complex data quickly
  • Demonstrated the ability to operate effectively amid evolving or ambiguous requirements.
  • Advanced data analysis skills, including statistical analysis, variance/trend/change analysis, root-cause diagnostics, and predictive analytics.
  • Hands-on expertise with Monte Carlo simulation and other advanced modeling techniques. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI, Excel, and Smartsheet. 
  • Strong programming skills in SQL, Python, and/or R. 
  • Demonstrated experience with AI platforms such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Automate, or equivalent low-code AI tools. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, executive-ready visuals and insights. 
  • Strong customer focus and analytical rigor, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Experience in biopharmaceutical portfolio, capacity, capital, or workforce analytics. 
  • Familiarity with biopharmaceutical specific data sources, metrics, and product development
  • Experience with drug portfolio / project management systems such as Planisware
  • Certifications in data analytics, visualization, Power Platform, or AI tools.
