Summary:

This role will work closely with Data Scientists on the Data Insights team at Clio with a high level of mentorship and technical guidance. Analytical decisions and modeling approaches will typically be made in collaboration with senior team members.

Role Expectations:

  • Work on Clio’s Data Insights team and gain exposure to how data science shapes product strategy, customer experience, and business decisions.

  • Partner with Data Scientists and cross-functional teams to contribute to Clio’s mission to transform the legal experience for all.

  • Support data-driven projects and lead smaller analyses independently. This work could include:

  • Assisting in exploratory data analysis to uncover product usage patterns, trends, or anomalies

  • Preparing datasets using Python and SQL for modeling, reporting, or dashboarding

  • Supporting the development and evaluation of machine learning models (e.g. churn prediction, user segmentation)

  • Running A/B test analyses and helping summarize experimental outcomes

  • Building and updating dashboards, slide decks, or notebooks to present findings

  • Maintaining project tracking tools like dbt, GitHub, or internal documentation

  • Participating in sprint ceremonies, code reviews, and team knowledge shares

  • Contributing to Clio’s internal data science playbooks, templates, and best practices

  • Supporting ad-hoc data requests or mini-projects from Product, Marketing, or Customer teams

  • You’ll be part of a collaborative team that values curiosity, continuous learning, and the ethical use of AI and data. You’ll leave this co-op with hands-on experience in applied data science and an understanding of how data drives business value at a high-growth SaaS company.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Ability to work collaboratively on a cross-functional team including Data Scientists, Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers

  • Analytical mindset (Critical thinking, curiosity, and a strong ability to break down complex problems using data)

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data exploration, analysis, and basic modeling

  • Comfortable using data notebooks (Jupyter, Colab) and version control tools (GitHub)

  • Familiar with spreadsheet tools and able to organize findings clearly in Excel or Google Sheets

  • Ability to document analysis clearly and communicate results through visualizations or slides

  • Bonus: Experience with A/B testing, basic machine learning libraries (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, or XGBoost), or data storytelling tools (e.g. Looker Studio, Tableau, Seaborn)

Job Requirements:

  • A 1st year Masters Data Science student or a fourth year undergrad student, enrolled in a co-op program

  • Focus on data science, statistics, machine learning

  • Available for an 8 month co-op term (May to December)

  • Based in Toronto, Vancouver, or Calgary

Some highlights of our Total Rewards program include:

  • Hybrid work environment, with expectation for local Clions (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin and Sydney) to be in office minimum twice per week.

  • 4% vacation pay for hours worked.

The expected new hire base pay for this role is $46,000 CAD.
