Northrop Grumman's Corporate office is seeking Business Development & Strategy Director 2.  Located in Falls Church, VA, this leader will be expected to drive growth and be responsible for delivering an extraordinary customer experience across our domestic and global customer environment infusing strategic focus and messaging into all elements of customer engagement.  This position reports to the Corporate VP, International Business Development.

Responsibilities include leading a team to:

  • Own the business development and strategy function, including its operation (budgeting, forecasting, etc.), strategic planning, market analysis, and pursuit and capture planning.

  • Primary responsibilities will focus on international business development and the relationships with the U.S. Government international organizations .

  • Provide vision and leadership in the development and synthesis of a cohesive and executable division strategy.  Build new market capture strategies and initiate product expansion to drive organic growth. 

  • Lead, direct, coach, and develop business development directors and managers.

  • Implement reliable business development and capture processes, that are consistent with Company, Sector and Division business strategy, values, and operating principles.

  • Customer Engagement - Responsible for the development of customer engagement strategies across the Division portfolio, in collaboration with the Division, Business Units (BU), Functions and Defense Systems Sector teams considering emerging markets, industries, and technologies

  • Create, maintain and implement a customer engagement and senior customer visit plan across domestic and international military, government, and industry leadership.  Expand relationships both internally and externally, with key DOD customers, industry partners, as well as relationships with key international customers.

  • Understand and help shape requirements and expectations of key customers. Maintain and communicate an understanding of customer planning and budgeting processes.

  • Secure strategic alliances and teaming opportunities that strengthen market position and fill capability gaps critical to achieving market expansion strategies.  Lead Division portfolio assessment to identify and pursue advantageous strategic alliances, mergers and acquisition candidates.

  • Lead the pipeline new business development activity to define new business opportunities that ultimately achieve the AOP and LRSP growth goals for the division

  • Lead development of a comprehensive discretionary Investment Strategy & NCTA Management, to include Performance Tracking, to support the vision and growth objectives of the Division.

  • Responsible for the fiscal management of the department’s budget

  • Responsible for the accuracy and consistency of the Customer Relationships Management (CRM) tools (SalesForce) while following the process standards of the Northrop Grumman Business Acquisition Process (BAP)

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Must have one of the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline with a minimum of 15 years of industry experience

    • Master’s degree in business or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of Aerospace and/or Defense industry experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience in Functional Management, Engineering Management, Operations Management, and/or

  • Program Management

  • Must be able to travel as needed

  • Recent senior U.S. Government official leading international, FMS, and security cooperation operations with close familiarity with Department of War and all military services international agencies

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in technical/business field

  • 15 years of industry experience in business development, capture leadership and/or program management

  • Demonstrated multi-disciplinary global business development, strategy development and capture experience

  • Demonstrated people leadership skills; direct and indirect leadership of large teams; ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Proven ability to provide independent critical assessments, that ultimately result in better outcomes for the enterprise

  • Proven highly effective executive communication, presentation, and influencing skills

  • Previous Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility

  • Strategic planning, new business development, and investment planning

  • Strong customer domain knowledge and a proven track record of sustained business growth

  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $242,100.00 - $363,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
