Job Summary:
The Principal Software Analyst supports and maintains software-as-a-service (SaaS), packaged software, and enterprise-wide applications. Maps business processes to applications to best deliver value and maximize application functionality. Performs configuration, setup, and updates of the application, as well as manages access control. Scope of delivery is for a single squad and sphere of influence is within own squad and peer squads within the same domain or capability area to lead and influence solid design and seamless integration.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the design, configuration, testing, monitoring, and support of a platform or application to deliver business value and maximize capabilities of the system. Keeps applications current by staying abreast of new releases, features, and add-ins. Explores or optimizes application integrations. Sets up and manages system users through role-based authorization. Builds deep subject matter knowledge for an entire domain or capability area, where one or many applications may be leveraged. Defines, develops, and enforces standards where applicable.
Contributes to and helps refine the team's backlog to capture work that promotes the team's mission and advances the team's business goals. Partners with peer Engineers and the Product Owner to lead the team in breaking down larger bodies of work (epics) into smaller, well understood items (stories) that can be accomplished in a single iteration. Ensures stories have clearly understood value and defined acceptance criteria. Communicates with key partners and dependent squads to understand scope of planned work and translate the impact to the squad. Partners with Product Managers in the domain to inform prioritization, identify dependencies, and influence the product roadmap.
Participates in team's agile ceremonies, including daily stand-up, backlog refinement, planning, review/demo, and retrospectives. Helps drive collaboration within the team through practices such as pair programming with peer Software Engineers. Actively seek ways to drive continuous improvement within the team. Leads team through resolution of blockers and implementation of new practices identified as part of the team's continuous improvement goals.
Partners with peer Engineers and Solution Architects to understand and adopt enterprise patterns and technology goals by sharing information about the needs of the business area. Assists with tool selection and implementation (as appropriate) to deliver cost-effective solutions that drive the right business value. Creates and maintains accurate business process design documents (as needed) and support playbooks.
Mentors individuals in the squad to help build application and subject matter expertise in the business delivery area. Leads through direction, example, and by creating opportunities for others to learn.
Partners with vendors on implementations, software updates, validation, and support. Makes recommendations around adoption of new incoming solutions.
Ensures new features/functions are tested thoroughly, inclusive of integrations and end-to-end process flows. Leverages automation to accomplish repeatable tasks where possible and appropriate. Facilitates user acceptance testing when applicable. Troubleshoots and fixes bugs where applicable.
Leverages best practices, technologies, and instrumentation to monitor and observe health, availability, and performance of software in production and to inform roadmap/backlog improvements. Partners with the squad and peers across squads to diagnose performance issues found in monitoring. Identifies and implements new monitoring and proactive alerting mechanisms to inform the squad of issues before problems reach consumers and stakeholders.

Additional Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree, applicable certification or equivalent experience.
• Typically requires 8+ years of professional experience and mastery of relevant technical or business skills required to accomplish the job.
