About the role
We’re looking for a Business Advisor Specialist to join our growing team!
As a data driven Business Advisor Specialist you will play an important role in enhancing our business process and operational effectiveness. In this dynamic role, you'll collaborate closely with Finance, IT finance and upstream teams on projects or transformation initiatives to improve performance and set up our finance team for world class success.

What you'll do here:
Act as a bridge between finance and technology maintaining a clear communication channels between finance and technical teams, ensuring alignment and understanding.
Develop an expert understanding of our Event Based Process Flows (EBPFs) which visually maps out the journey of a business process into an accounting event, and finally into a journal entry; and understanding of Cash Flow Master File (CFMF) which is data flow traceability matrix, maps data journey from inception to target which is a journal entry
Develop an expert understanding of our chart of accounts, internal and external financial reporting requirements, and ERP system.
Analyze business and operational challenges, conducting independent and comprehensive analysis of finance processes and data, and recommend data-driven solutions to business leaders to enhance performance and effectiveness.
Collaborate with finance stakeholders to understand and document business requirements related to finance systems and processes.
Conduct workshops and interviews to extract detailed requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Combine and analyze elements from various sources to identify trends, surface root causes of problems, and document information in various ways to uncover issues and potential solutions: process maps, fit/gap analysis, impact analysis, discovery/exploratory analysis, etc.
Challenge the status quo and recommend improvements.
Ensure finance requirements are well understood by technical teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Create and present clear, concise, and persuasive narratives tailored to diverse audiences, including executive leadership, to ensure effective communication of complex insights.
Lead projects with stakeholders to enhance efficiency and address operational challenges, while supporting the business in effective execution and change management.
Become a recognized as a subject matter expert in own discipline.
Lead the development of the test strategies ensuring that risks are covered following systems changes, decommissioning, enhancements, new design, etc.
Implement quality assurance and ensure compliance with IPE/EUC controls within your scope.
Perform or support users’ acceptance testing and document UAT reports.
Provides coaching and reviews work of lower-level professionals.
What you bring to the table:
Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Business Advisor Specialist in the finance and IT fields.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA or master’s degree is an asset
CPA title is a great asset
Six sigma certification is an asset
Knowledge of P&C insurance industry and IFRS17 are strong assets.
Good understanding of the accounting cycle / record to report
Strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial and business analysis tools (Office 365, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Visio., Power BI, Power Query) – This skill will be tested.
Communication: Strong experience in communicating technical analyses clearly
Experience with presenting complex information and expertise to senior leadership and executives
Competencies: adaptability, innovative, analytical, decision making, critical thinking, clear communication, planning and organizing, team oriented
Ability to plan and execute on projects
Self-driven, autonomous, and solution-oriented
Knowledge of Jira, Confluence, an ETL tool and a RDBMS is considered an asset.
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country
