Job Summary: Come Join Our Team! The Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) is recruiting for a Boiler Plant Operator. Duties primarily involve operation and operational maintenance of single and multiple fuel water or fire tube boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment. This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, VISN 6, Fayetteville VAMC, Facilities Management Service, Utilities Section, Fayetteville, NC.

Major Duties:

  • Duties include but are not limited to: Operates, regulates, maintains, and repairs the Boiler Plant Unit of the Utility Systems Operation Section of Facilities Management Service. Safely and efficiently operate high pressure automatic gas and oil fired boilers and all associated auxiliary equipment, instruments, electronic/pneumatic controls and measuring devices in a steam generating plant. Operates the Chiller Plant and all utility systems and equipment associated with the steam and chilled water distribution systems. Monitors and controls Medical Center Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Monitor other medical center equipment through hardwired devices to the Boiler Plant, i.e., generators, intrusion alarms, space temperatures, etc. Maintain utility systems and related equipment in the boiler plant, i.e., valves, pumps, motors, and exhaust fans. Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts, subject to change due to position coverage. Position Description Title/PD#: Boiler Plant Operator/PD07911A Physical Requirements: Selectee will work from ladders platforms, and in hard to reach locations. Work on close, cramped positions inside boilers. Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Occasionally required to lift and move heavy objects of varying weights, sizes, and shapes. Pushes and pull equipment.
