Summary of Primary Functions: The safety specialist ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, promotes a culture of safety, and reduces risk. This role involves conducting risk assessments, developing safety protocols, overseeing training programs, and performing safety audits to support a safe and productive workplace. This role is based at the Petersburg, VA Tindall plant and Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are preferred.

Job Specifications or Qualifications: All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment, and the production of high-quality products.

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of the manufacturing facility, including equipment, materials handling, and work areas.

  • Investigate workplace incidents, near-misses, and injuries to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.

  • Maintain and update safety-related documentation, such as SDSs, training records, and inspection logs.

  • Identify potential safety risks associated with precast concrete processes, such as crane operations, material handling, confined spaces, and chemical exposure.

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientations, equipment operator, and emergency response procedures.

  • Lead toolbox talks and participates in safety committee meetings.

  • Ensure first aid kits, eyewash stations, and other emergency equipment are readily available and in compliance with regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 1910 General industry standards and other relevant safety regulations.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in safety within a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to work independently

  • In depth knowledge of OSHA standards and other regulatory requirements applicable to manufacturing.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
