Big Data Engineer, Advanced Analytics & Modelling

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable data pipelines using PySpark on Databricks to process large, granular datasets (e.g., transactions, customer, digital data).

  • Transform source data into curated datasets, supporting feature engineering, modelling, and analytical needs.

  • Optimize Spark jobs for performance, cost, and reliability, including partitioning strategies, data layout, and cluster usage.

  • Implement and maintain data quality checks, validation logic, and monitoring to ensure reliable inputs for forecasting models.

  • Partner with data scientists to understand modelling requirements and support feature engineering workflows, experimentation, and model iteration.

  • Support broader team initiatives requiring data engineering expertise, including ad hoc analysis, performance tuning, or data onboarding.

What You Bring

  • University degree in data engineering, computer science, or equally technical field

  • Strong experience as a Data Engineer working with large datasets

  • Hands-on expertise with PySpark, ideally on the Databricks platform.

  • Proficiency in Python, with clean, maintainable coding practices.

  • Experience designing data pipelines for analytics or machine learning use cases in a cloud-based data environment (Azure preferred).

  • Ability to work effectively with data scientists, translating analytical needs into robust data solutions.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to business audiences

Preferred Experience

  • Working knowledge of machine learning concepts and workflows (e.g., feature engineering, training vs. scoring datasets)

  • Experience or interest in lightweight UI or analytics app development (e.g., Streamlit, Python-based visualization tools).

  • Retail, supply chain, or merchandising domain experience is an asset

Our typical hiring range is between $64,000.00 and $106,000.00 per annum. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, job-related knowledge, skills and competencies, market location, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements.
