Vinted

Backend Engineer, Trust & Safety

Kaunas, Lithuania Full Time

Brief info about Vinted

Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:

Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.

Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.

Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.

Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Our backers include Accel, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sprints, and TPG.

Information about the position

We are expanding the Trust & Safety domain and looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Trust Experience team - the group dedicated to empowering our users, brands, and organizations to confidently identify and respond to harmful or suspicious activity on Vinted.

As our new backend software engineer, you’ll be at the core of how we keep our community safe: driving technical initiatives, building new services, developing and rethinking user-facing features, and maintaining the systems that support them. Your work will prepare our product for the challenges ahead, help millions of people feel safe on our platform, and contribute to Vinted’s vision of making second-hand the first choice.

The Trust Experience team sits within the Trust & Safety domain and owns:

  • The ability to block other users
  • User education related to safety and catalog rules

We’re a product team with a strong cross-functional setup: iOS, Android, and Web engineers on the frontend; two backend engineers; a QA engineer; and an EPDA group consisting of a Product Manager, Product Designer, Decision Scientist, and Engineering Manager.

In this position, you’ll

  • Work on extracting our logic from the Vinted core monolith into a dedicated Go service and thereby promote greater team autonomy
  • Design and build a completely new platform that enables brands and organizations to report content to us more easily and effectively
  • Work in a cross-functional team, shape and remodel features that help our members and brands to protect themselves and others
  • Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and thorough code reviews
  • Provide mentorship and support to engineers around you, helping them grow both technically and professionally
  • See your code affect 80+ million users almost instantly – our master branch is deployed straight to production on each merge, and we ship many times per day
  • Work with a healthy mix of battle-tested and emerging technologies such as Golang, Ruby on Rails, Vitess, Redis, Kafka, MySQL, and many more

About you

  • Hands-on working experience in development or operations at scale
  • Driven by curiosity to explore and master new technologies and concepts
  • Enthusiastic about exploring and tackling complex challenges in backend development
  • Committed to writing clean, maintainable code with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Strong inclination to collaborate with team members, share knowledge, and foster a positive, cooperative environment
  • Willingness to take the lead in addressing issues and driving improvements, even without explicit direction
  • Proficient communicator in spoken and written English, comfortable collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in Ruby on Rails or Golang is a plus
