Overview
The Aviation Safety Compliance Specialist manages, initiates, plans, develops, and directs the technical and administrative activities of a comprehensive safety program and compliance for the City of Dallas Airport.
Essential Functions
1 Manages, coordinates, trains, and evaluates safety staff and job assignments; directs and coordinates the technical and administrative activities of the Aviation Safety Programs for airside and landside operations.
2 Identifies and determines procedures used in day-to-day operations to ensure compliance, enhance safety activities and programs, and support safety programs and practices for the airport; designs and implements various safety initiatives to mitigate occupational injuries and conducts and analyzes various types of occupational health surveys.
3 Assists landside and airside personnel in resolving health and safety problems; trains and educates personnel in using protective equipment and facilitating compliance with safety regulations and standards; advises and consults with representatives of the airport, management, labor and professional groups on the organization and operation of aviation safety programs and compliance.
4 Evaluates, reviews, and processes scientific and statistical data, interprets results and prepares various reports; plans and administers safety program budget and consults with local, state and federal agencies concerning regulatory guidelines, safety initiatives, resources allocations, and standard compliance.
5 Remains current on all guidelines, research, and regulatory changes to safety protocols, programs, and initiatives; monitors airport's implementation of adjusted regulations and facilitates compliance and training.
6 Responds to compliance and safety issues in both airside and landside operations; provides skill, knowledge, and understanding of regulations to resolve issues, non compliance, and necessary adjustments to regulatory standards.
7 Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and other exchanges of communication to ensure airport compliance with safety standards.
8 Participates in public speaking to communicate and inform safety issues, safety training, or other important information.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of general safety programs and compliance for airside and landside operations.
2 Knowledge of Aviation programs, practices, and administration.
3 Knowledge of aviation regulatory agencies, policies, standards, and information.
4 Ability to facilitate, coordinate, and provide professional knowledge for safety programs in the airport.
5 Ability to identify and determine non compliance.
6 Ability to interpret and apply statistical safety data and make recommendations accordingly.
7 Ability to oversee, lead, and supervise lower level subordinates.
8 Ability to provide effective training and education on safety programs and protocols.
9 Ability to analyze data and make effective recommendations.
10 Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
11 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Safety, Emergency Management, Engineering, Construction Safety, Industrial Safety or any related science or technical field
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in Safety (Occupational Health, System Safety, Industrial Safety, Risk Assessment and/or Loss Prevention) OR Airport/Airfield Operations or Management.
EQUIVALENCIES:
High school diploma or GED plus seven (7) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
An associate degree in any field plus five (5) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a non-specified field plus five (5) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
Master’s degree in a stated field plus one (1) year of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE and CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Must be able to complete Airport Movement Area certification within probationary period
National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800 certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of appointment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check.
Subject to twenty-four (24/7) on-call, including weekends and holidays.
Salary Range
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
