Automation Engineer Intern
Location: Kilkenny
Duration: 8 Months


Overview of the Role:
The Automation Engineer will be assisting with the completion and quality of work on both tender and contract projects. He/she will be involved in tendering, design and installation of various projects in Veolia’s water, wastewater, energy and waste industries. Will co-ordinate with the EICA team to ensure all projects are programmed to the highest standards. Working as part of the team structure, the Intern works as part of a team to design, program and commission allocated projects, from initial control philosophies to site installation.

Playing an integral role within the EICA Team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on projects across a wide range of sectors, including industrial, pharmaceutical, healthcare and municipal.


Day to day of the role:

  • Assisting with planning and managing a diverse and challenging range of automation projects, from initial brief to programming, installation and commissioning.

  • Working across Control, development and modification of software, both on PLC and SCADA systems.

  • Involved with testing-on-completion and handover formalities at end of project.

  • Commissioning of project installation on site.

  • Assisting with the preparation and delivery of technical reports as necessary.

  • Health & Safety promotion

  • Provision of on-site support as may be required for both planned and emergency repairs.

  • Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Tests.

  • Be confident to provide ideas and solutions to the team.

  • Preparation of documentation required for the installation phase of a project.

  • Liaise with design, contract, installation and commissioning departments.

  • Development of new designs and concepts.

  • Assisting with the preparation of Technical Submissions.

  • Work closely with other departments within the business such as electrical, process and mechanical.

  • Review project progress against schedule.

  • Manage project documentation according to the requirements of the Project

  • Quality Plan.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Currently studying to Degree, or higher, level in Automation Engineering or

  • equivalent

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Experience of automation of electronic instruments and drive networks, e.g.

  • Modbus, ProfiBus, DeviceNET, Ethernet/IP, ModbusTCP

  • Experience with Schneider, Omron or Mitsubishi automation
