Job Summary

The Automation Design Engineer at Jabil, Inc. will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of innovative automation solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and enhance operational efficiency. This role requires a strong understanding of automation principles, robotics, and industrial control systems to create robust and scalable automated systems.

Job Responsibilities

* Design, develop, and test automated manufacturing systems, including robotic cells, assembly lines, and material handling equipment, utilizing CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., manufacturing, process engineering, production) to identify automation opportunities and define project requirements.
* Develop detailed electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics and documentation for automation systems.
* Select and integrate appropriate sensors, actuators, PLCs, HMI devices, and other control components.
* Program and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, Universal Robots).
* Conduct simulations and analyses to validate automation designs and optimize system performance.
* Participate in the installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automated equipment on the production floor.
* Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel on automated systems.
* Stay abreast of new technologies and industry trends in automation and robotics to propose innovative solutions.
* Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.

Job Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
* 3+ years of experience in automation design, development, and implementation within a manufacturing environment.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for mechanical and electrical design.
* Knowledge of PLC programming and HMI development.
* Strong knowledge with industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, Universal Robots).
* Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
* Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
* Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
* Experience with vision systems and machine learning applications in automation is a plus.
