Job Summary: Make an impact while you learn. The Semester of Service Program offers students a volunteer project-based opportunity to support real Federal missions, gaining hands-on experience and valuable career-ready skills. With this project, you'll support a automation-based project.

Major Duties:

  • Work Schedule and Flexibilities: Flexible, Hybrid or remote work (Washington, DC or Lakewood, CO if in-person is required) Project Description: The Technology, Strategy, and Innovation (TSI) in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) team is seeking student support for Power Platform and task management automation initiatives that advance IT modernization and operational efficiency. Students will work on clearly defined, short-term projects focused on workflow automation and business process improvement. Activities may include documenting existing workflows, designing and building low-code automation solutions (e.g., Power Platform), and developing tools to enhance task tracking, reporting, and system integration. Deliverables will include: Documented current-state workflows and process maps Developed and tested automation solutions (e.g., Power Apps, Power Automate) Supporting technical documentation for implemented solutions A brief presentation summarizing outcomes, functionality, and recommendations This project provides hands-on experience in low-code development, workflow automation, and IT service optimization, while delivering practical tools that support TSI mission priorities.

Qualifications: Applicants will be considered based on their knowledge, skills or abilities related to project needs. Specifically, applicants should have: Coursework or experience in information systems, business analysis, or related field Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) or similar tools preferred Basic understanding of workflow/process mapping and task management concepts Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills The government-wide "Semester of Service" Student Volunteer Program, as authorized under 5 U.S.C §31114 and 5 CFR Part 3085, enables Federal agencies to engage students in unpaid, project-based assignments of limited duration. These assignments are designed to align with each agency's strategic priorities, offering participants practical experience within Federal operations while supporting the advancement of targeted initiatives.
