Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The candidate will assist members of the Canadian Power and Utilities Corporate Banking team in the origination, structuring, execution, administration, and portfolio management of credit facilities to RBC Capital Markets’ power and utilities clients across Canada. The candidate will work on financings across the sector, including but not limited to energy transition (wind, solar farms, battery storage), utilities (regulated electric, gas and water utilities along with district energy) and energy infrastructure.

Corporate Banking plays a key role in the realization of RBC Capital Markets’ objectives through the structuring, syndication and management of bank debt for a targeted customer base in the power and utilities sector. In addition, Corporate Banking reinforces existing non-lending business through initiating, coordinating and cross-selling a full suite of products and capabilities alongside our partners in Global Investment Banking. Through this effort, Corporate Banking is focused on achieving maximum product penetration across all RBC Capital Markets’ products, maximizing lead managed transactions and market rankings in key products, and maximizing RBC’s share of the client’s wallet.

What will you do?

  • Assist in the preparation of internal credit submissions (i.e. company, industry and financial analysis and modeling) and other documentation related to the transaction approval process.
  • Work in a team environment with RBC Capital Markets partners including investment banking, loan syndications, debt and equity capital markets, loan agency, risk management, portfolio management etc.
  • Assist with internal credit administration, including monitoring the team’s loan portfolio performance and market/industry conditions.
  • Create, maintain and update pitch decks, internal presentation materials, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Assist with corporate banking coverage for identified clients.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have's

  • 2-4 years work experience in a related field, including corporate lending, finance and/or risk management. Project finance specific experience would be an asset.
  • Strong academic credentials including completion of Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering or a related field.
  • MBA and/or CPA, CFA professional designation (completed or near completion) would be an asset but is not required.
  • Advanced financial modeling abilities, as well as superior written and presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with keen attention to detail and strong interest in corporate lending and the power and utilities sector.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to critically assess financial statements; financial modeling and other client reports to draw reasonable conclusions and make suitable recommendations.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines, adapt to changing circumstances, prioritizes work and multi-task responsibilities while working for multiple people.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to commit to over and above regular work hours as required.

Compensation for this position (including salary and discretionary/variable payments) will be determined by factors, including but not limited to candidate's experience, skills, registration status, performance, individual goals, market conditions, and business needs.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is:

$90,000.00 - $135,000.00
