The Associate – Financial Institutions: Insurance, Specialty Finance, & Asset Managers will sit within US Corporate Banking’s Financial Institutions Group and report to the senior coverage bankers.
In this role the Associate will be responsible for deal execution, credit underwriting, maintaining existing credit relationships, and supporting senior coverage bankers for client engagement. The Associate will cover a diversified portfolio of FIG Clients with an emphasis on Insurance sectors and Specialty Finance. This role requires maintaining an awareness of the client, company, and industry, as well as regulatory issues, relevant economic and political trends, and client needs in order to tailor coverage and financing solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a key member of the team, the Associate will assist in developing and advancing the US Financial Institution Group’s strategy in alignment with CIBC’s overall strategic objectives for growing the Capital Markets business
Managing the deal execution process and supporting senior bankers in client coverage
Support, and lead where appropriate, engagement for developing and cultivating new client relationships in order to expand CIBC’s US Financial Institution’s brand and franchise
How You’ll Succeed:
CIBC is committed to bringing a technically strong, commercially astute and culturally aligned banker who will help support CIBC’s Financial Institutions franchise. The role is commercially hands-on and requires strong credit underwriting and communication skills and industry engagement to support client relationship development.
Who You Are:
With a minimum 3+ years’ experience, a demonstrated knowledge within the Financial Institutions sector and understanding of the relevant core banking products for Financial Institution clients (Corporate Finance, Hedging, Trade Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Global Markets products, etc.)
Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail in order to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projects
Strong skills in corporate finance, credit underwriting and analysis, and ability to manage deal processes and engagement with risk, legal and other deal support providers.
Strong Microsoft Office Suite (Excel / PowerPoint) skills with the ability to lead the production of supporting materials with a high attention to detail (pitch decks, internal presentations, deal related committees, etc.).
Ability to work independently and proactively within a fast paced environment and collaborate with senior partners across Capital Markets.
Candidate will have proven ability to engage with business leadership and stakeholders in credit risk management to appropriately evaluate risks and provide insight on mitigating those risks.
Liaises with other CIBC units and relationship stakeholders within CIBC Capital Markets and across the broader CIBC platform.
Highly effective team player, both functionally and regionally, and able to work well in a matrix structure and with cross-border stakeholders.
Maintain or obtain within 90 days of hire: FINRA Series 79, 63 and SIE registrations

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $150,000-$185,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component. CIBC offers a full range of benefits and programs to meet our employee’s needs; including Medical, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Account, Life Insurance, Disability, and Other Insurance Plans, Paid Time Off (including Sick Leave, Parental Leave, and Vacation), Holidays, and 401(k), in addition to other special perks reserved for our team members.
